My goal is work my way up from barista to shift supervisor to store manager, should I mention that during my interview? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by sharksareadorable
Also, what kind of questions should I prepare myself for for the interview? I have mine on Friday

Sure, mentioning you are there to stay and want to have a career path is great. Although, to be honest you have a long way to go from barista to manager. You should prepare for general what would you do/any prior experience type questions.

That would be great to mention.. even better would be making your 10 year plan.. cuz that’s generally the amount of time I have seen it takes people to move up in this company from barista. You probably have a faster track of working your way up somewhere else and then getting hired as store manager.

I never thought about it until I read this comment. my sister works at a matcha cafe and moved up to asm in like 6 months and ive been working with shifts that have been in the company for 5+ years still waiting to have the conversation about moving up to asm. my manager was an outside hire so I would definitely move up somewhere else and then just apply as a manager.

The company just changed some policies concerning this. Anyone interested in promoting up can now apply online via Taleo I think for your store or other as well. Also, if you haven't already had your PDCs then I highly suggest you bring this up to your SM!! Good luck!

I am speaking from my observations of many partners in my area.. I know there are supposed ways for us to advance, however what I have seen it does not happen all too often or quickly at all. There are two in my store alone that keep getting the run around while trying to advance to ASM, it doesn’t help that there aren’t very many of those positions in the company over all.

I've noticed that too, that's why I mentioned Taleo.
I think that for a greater opportunity a change of store should be considered. [I can only speak from what's been happening around my area too]
