I was sent home directly after being written up today, and strongly encouraged to quit for a comment I made on Partner hub in regards to the update about the mask regulations.
I realize I shouldn't criticize the company on their own network, but I figured I'd point out how dumb I was to anyone here who can learn from my mistakes.
BeardiesRule112170 points2y ago
God forbid someone criticize corporate while they’re fucking around at home everyday
SighJayAtWork [OP]144 points2y ago
I think saying "maybe you should come down from your ivory towers and join us down here with the maskless" may have been the "disrespectful" tone I was reprimanded for.
KaleSalad20135 points2y ago
okay but like...they should...😂 Sorry you got reprimanded and hope everything goes okay for you but hell yes to your statement 🙌🏻
sp_c_g_d18 points2y ago
Maybe we should all go make the same comment. They going to write up entire stores while everyone is quitting?
SchemingPancake12 points2y ago
I was a barista in a Seattle Starbucks when everything started shutting down. One of the corporate partners who was a regular at our store had the audacity to come through our drive thru and complain about working from home. “Come down from your ivory towers” is damn right. But I acknowledge that it may not have been the place 🙃
LatteMaster8 points2y ago
Is that what you said word for word? Yikes
SighJayAtWork [OP]31 points2y ago
I don't have access to the comment anymore, but that's what I remember saying. I think I also said "I wish I could quit" or something.
LatteMaster17 points2y ago
How did the manager even find out about the comment lol? Also the fact that your manager suggested you quit means you are probs gonna be terminated and they are giving you a chance to get out.
---ugh---3 points2y ago
oooof I read that comment yesterday and I commend you 👍💖

Yup
greenlykethecolor45 points2y ago
The messaging they put out was condescending as fuck. Thanks for giving a dig back. Sorry your dealing with the blow back.
SighJayAtWork [OP]25 points2y ago
Thank you for your supportive words! I am indeed panicking, but it seriously helps knowing some people feel the same as I do.
ashbmuffin45 points2y ago
Thanks for this warning! I was about to post a comment on that thread too. Seems like the company is as shitty as we thought
LatterRooster17 points2y ago
Just comment that: “ sorry, can’t comment because i know others have been threatened to be fired for commenting. might as well turn the commenting off.”
drinkliquidclocks22 points2y ago
Were you being explicit or something? Are employees really not allowed to criticize the company?
SighJayAtWork [OP]45 points2y ago
I said that corporate clearly doesn't care about the well being of staff or customers. No profanity or anything.
Jadenvicious12 points2y ago
They don't though
OneRoseDark9 points2y ago
Yeah, I was scrolling through comments today and idly thought "I wonder how many of these people are being contacted by their DM this week?"
I made a frustrated comment about a year ago when we were getting too many hours for unemployment but not enough for rent, and within two hours I was chatting on the phone with the DM explaining my frustrations/fears and getting solutions/reassurances. Good ending for me. Somehow I doubt the people cursing are getting endings like that.
jupiter_bug7 points2y ago
You are the martyr of starbucks baristas
New-Cartoonist-31407 points2y ago
Where can I leave a comment??
SighJayAtWork [OP]6 points2y ago
The messages sent out to shifts and managers have comment sections.
New-Cartoonist-31402 points2y ago
That’s interesting, my manager only posted it in our group chat... I didn’t get a personal message
arianamar967 points2y ago
Ooof that sucks
Politicalgeek036 points2y ago
Fuck Corporate
ecstaticelecticity6 points2y ago
So glad I don’t work there anymore. What a nightmare. I’m sorry, y’all.
Cooch_21195 points2y ago
Speaking of quitting maybe I’m totally imagining this but is there like a 6 month commitment before you can quit or was that a nightmare I had
tazman124310 points2y ago
No one can force you to work
SighJayAtWork [OP]10 points2y ago
As far as I know, there isn't. In my five years with the 'bucks I've seen about fifty different employees come and go in under a week, so you're probably fine. Make sure to give your two weeks notice so you have a decent reference!
LatterRooster4 points2y ago
I’ve heard They won’t give reference. Just quit when you want. All they can say is that you worked there? Again words from another partner not from any handbook.
rudebii5 points2y ago
They’ll confirm details about employment date and if you’re eligible for rehire, but no positive or negative reference.
LatterRooster2 points2y ago
Good to know

I think you’re imagining it. My boss has told people he needs certain commitments out of them to get moved up, but those aren’t binding. It may be state to state, but NY is at will hiring so you can quit or be fired for any reason with no warning.
the1noir4 points2y ago
Wait I think I saw it lol, when I was reading it I was like “uhh is this allowed 👀”
richayy4204 points2y ago
I want to retaliate with my mask off but that’s what im arguing against. So painful hard to fight with conglomerate businesses
SighJayAtWork [OP]4 points2y ago
I may or may not be giving away drinks today. Haven't been fired yet? Idunno.
thememequeenv34 points2y ago
Were you upset that customers don't have to wear masks or that we still do?
SighJayAtWork [OP]15 points2y ago
I'm upset that we're being told "don't be silly panicky children, just make us money and serve maskless customers" by someone that will never have to do that.

thememequeenv3-10 points2y ago
Are you vaccinated? Cause the CDC is only concerned about unmasked unvaccinated people infecting each other at this point, not vaccinated people. The fact that we're still wearing masks is above and beyond the CDC recommendations anyway. My other job is at a hospital and of course we're still wearing masks there, but at some point we have to return to normal as a coffee shop. If for whatever reason you can't be vaccinated or aren't vaccinated, but scared about being infected by customers, maybe look into N95s without valves since they're allowed at SBUX.
SighJayAtWork [OP]15 points2y ago
I'm vaxxed, but my wife is immune compromised and has severe asthma, so I'm a little freaked out about killing her. I'm more upset with Starbucks' tone and the way they rolled out this information, realized we were freaking out, then did an update that called layers of protection "swiss cheese".
I get that it was a reference to a NYT article, it still doesn't seem in good taste.
thememequeenv30 points2y ago
I'm immune compromised too and currently not working due to a severe medical condition, but is your wife vaccinated? If she is, and you're still concerned, maybe take up those concerns with her doctor to see if there's anything you should do differently right now and if there is concern with her becoming seriously ill still. Also my mom is taking several immune suppressants and she got COVID back is December, took all the precautions, but still got sick. I kept such a close eye on her (from a distance) as a healthcare provider. She measured her temp and oxygen saturation and sent it to me multiple times a day so I'd know if she needed to go to the hospital, and thankfully she never did.
