How to cope? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Jem_dot0
So I love my coworkers. But lately the way this job is going, how do you deal with self-depreciating or coworkers who cannot take constructive criticism with ought taking offense?
Little background I have adhd and dissociation disorder coupled with sensory overload once in a while.
Lately I take on the moods of my coworkers and my mental health is suffering. I have also not been contributing to conversations because it’s upsetting to hear the negatives all the time.
I’m not the person to snap or disrespect partners because of the shit we deal with customers is more than enough stress. I just wish we as partners were a little more mindful with what we say.
I’m sorry if this sounds insensitive but lately it’s making me absolutely manic

I dont really have advice, just wanted to stop by to say I hear you. The moods of my coworkers really rubs off on me sometimes and when morale is low, it can really make a shift absolute shit. I hope you can find a way to talk to them about it or get someone to talk to them.

I ask my shift if I can do dishes in the back for a bit, put in earbuds and just avoid people for a while.

I just try to flip the morale, it’s kinda a pet peeve of mine when some partners only see the negatives in everything. I understand venting, but at the end of the day remaining positive is all you can really do. It is easier said than done, but we have the power to change how we let things impact our emotions. I have had to learn how to do this as a result of customer bullies. Positive reinforcement, support each other, and share some laughs. It almost always works!!
