Got yelled at for the first time (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Decent_Macaron3444
I've been working here for 2 months, and I'm okay with register but the nitty-gritty stuff with dealing w issues with stars just isn't something I'm knowledgeable of.. anyway some old man came in and ordered a bagel and coffee. I warmed the bagel and then he got all upset because it was warmed.. he didn't ever say he didn't want it warmed and it's made warm by default. He also wanted to use stars on his whole order and I was having trouble with his stars so he told me to "get someone who actually knows how to do their job." My SM came over and dealt with it but he continued having an attitude to the point where my SM had to say something along the lines of "excuse me?!". After that, he was freaking out about when his stars would return to his account because he got a refund and my SM repeatedly had to tell him that it might take some hours. He finally left and I thought it was over...
But he came in again yesterday and another partner took his order, which was just a tall pike. He got the coffee and left and I thought that was that, but he ran back into the store like.. actually yelling. He yelled something along the lines of "you made it purposely cold" (mind you, it wasn't cold) and that he was being 'polite yesterday'. I told him to leave bc he was causing a scene and then my SM dealt with him again. Hope he never comes here again lol..

some people are so disappointed with their own lives that they come into places like our stores and cause a scene to make themselves feel special. laugh about it and try not to let it get to you. I’ve been in food service for almost three years and it still shakes me up when it’s really bad, but I laugh about it later and it becomes a great story

Sometimes customers come in looking for a fight. It’s hardly ever personal, please keep that in mind. Though it doesn’t feel good to have a customer yell at you, you’re doing your best.

Some examples of times customers have been complete fucking idiots and still tried to blame me:

- orders xxxxxxtra cream in her coffee. Complains when coffee is cold. Try to explain that cold cream + hot coffee = tepid liquid. Her response: this never happens at home, get your manager (I am the manager) ((and yes, I tried to offer steamed cream, she didn’t want it))

- orders mocha with toffee nut and caramel drizzle. I repeat it back as salted caramel mocha. “NO, i don’t want that.” “Ok sir that’s the seasonal name for the drink” “NO, get me the manager. You’ll never make it at Starbucks.” (6 years ago)

If he comes in again, just be kind and polite. If he insists that someone else help him, hopefully your SSV will refuse and say “we’re all trained the same, she’s just as capable as I am.”

The extra cream thing happens at my store. We have one lady who every damn day orders a venti pike with 12 sugars and extra cream and then bitches when it’s cold. We get this lecture about how she comes every day, yada yada yada. Finally one time when she ordered I asked if she wanted the cream steamed. Oh man you’d have thought I asked if she wanted me to kick her dog. She was pissed and I got double lectured both about the steamed suggestion and about it being cold (I was DTO and DTR yay me!) all while she blew cigarette smoke in my face.

Anyway. The next day she ordered while I was barring and I steamed the cream anyway. She finally drove off without a damn screaming lecture. So now we have this unspoken rule that this lady is priority and we steam her cream without asking or putting it on the sticker. But we all, but me, especially hate her.

You have to TRY to make a pike cold
