I need advice on transferring stores (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by TJW351
So I’ve been at Starbucks since March, and I just heard my favorite shift supervisor is transferring to another store about 10 minutes away. I’m 20 and I’ve been working since I was 14 at various jobs and this is the first person I’ve worked for/with who has treated me like a person and made me feel happy at my job. Is it a bad idea for me to change stores with them? Some other baristas are considering it too. My only concerns are: I’m a college student so I would have to work my class schedule around the new work schedule, and I’m not sure what the process is for transferring.

So to transfer, your current SM and the SM of the other store would both have to approve your transfer. The store may not need another barista right now, but it depends on staffing.

As a general rule, transfers before 6months with the company are rare. New hires usually aren’t transferred until then/a point where they are successful in all positions and performing well (it looks bad on your current SM to transfer a barista who is still learning/not doing well - not saying you are/aren’t, just a factor)

Thank you for this reply, it definitely makes sense. My SM told me yesterday what they would expect of me if I do want to transfer, because it’s a brand new store. So maybe I’ll wait a bit? Idk. Thank you again

You can't transfer unless you have been with the Siren for at least 6 months.

I don’t think that’s true. My store just got a transfer who’s been only been with the bux for 4 months

Apparently, it can happen but it is exceedingly rare and doesn't really happen for new hires.
