just closer things (anxiety after work)(self.starbucksbaristas)

Nothing like laying in bed wide awake after a closing shift, recounting all of the stuff you forgot to do, that your SM will notice when she opens tomorrow morning. (I'm a SSV and only been with the company for a little under 3 months. Still getting the hang of things. And I closed with a super green bean) Forgot to prep teas ... Forgot to switch out the mocha that expired EOD (we made a backup though)... Forgot to prep WM and Chai, I think. As well as coffee + cream base... I feel like my SM is going to hate me for it 😬 Usually I have great closes, especially when I close with all the other closers who know what they are doing to at least some extent. I'm so anxious to go in tomorrow because I feel like I did a awful job tonight. 😅 Time to lay in bed and not fall asleep for hours contemplating even the most minor mistakes. 😅 (Edit: ALSO I think I forgot to dump out the trenta cups of tea 😭 I have no idea if it's "standard" to pour tea in trenta cups towards the end of the night so we can wash the pitchers but 😬 if it's not, my SM is gonna be pisssssssed. Oops)

Sounds so stressful for you - I give you credit for showing up for your shift and getting done what you did

None of those things are that serious, they will all take like 5 min combined. I am just trying to figure out how the hell the order system works still and how I am gonna remember everything lmao.

My store is understaffed as hell every single shift of every single day. We usually only have 2-3 people from 1-close and we are a pretty busy store considering. There’s so much that gets missed and skipped. We all wish we could get it done but even staying an extra half hour late it’s just impossible. I hate missing tasks but our SM doesn’t give us enough labor to actually complete them 😭

I get the same way when I close but I always think, hey, what’s the worse that could happen? Could they fire me over forgetting stuff when I close? I doubt it. They might get a bit annoyed but hey, if they’re visibly agitated when you get in, then apologize if you’re still feeling stressed. Hope you feel a bit better, and remember, it’s just coffee, it’s just syrup, it’s just tea.

My SM always used to tell me: relax, it’s just coffee

The worst things are the OOD mocha and teas - if you message your SM/post in your group chat the things you forgot that would probably be really appreciated! That way they know you’re aware of what you missed & that you do care, plus it means they don’t have to go through and triple check everything wondering what else they might have to do. Closes are hard! You deserve to relax and enjoy your night.

I'm usually an opener! I've done closing twice which makes me have a serious appreciation for all closers. I wasn't mad at this at all but I guess the closing crew forgot to empty the sani water- and it was- well had flies ALL over the area. It was foul smelling as well but hey mistakes happen we are human!

In my experience so far, the most important things are communicating. If you can’t finish everything at close, just send a message to the opener saying “hey! I just realized we didn’t get a chance to prep the teas/wm/chai last night, and the mocha on the counter is out of date but there’s a fresh backup. You’ll also need to restock the frap bases! Have a good shift” or something like that This way they can get on it right away

I felt bad because it was almost 2am when I was having these realizations and she had to be there to open at 4:30 😅 so I didn't text her. But I'll ask her today if she would prefer a text if this situation happens again!
