hellooooo! *uniform advice* (self.starbucksbaristas)

i’m starting training soon and i’m SUPER excited.

my question is usually i veil (i wear bandanna like head wraps to protect my fragile little heart that likes to absorb energy around me and is also a part of my slavic culture) but i asked my employer and he said he will try to look into it but he’s wasn’t sure. i’m talking about a solid black head wrap no patterns or anything like that. it’s just basically a security blanket for me that i’ve become to rely on. baseball hats give me the ick always have idk why they just really freak me out, the visor doesn’t stay on my head bc i have a very short pixie cut and i guess my head just built different. also, come on.. beanies in texas during the summer? oof. i didn’t mention to the management that it was important to me in this way bc i didn’t want to come off disrespectful or trying to make excuses (can’t imagine how many people try that and i didn’t want to cause more problems) and it is a very personal thing that i understand a lot of people wouldn’t instantly understand.

any alternative ideas i could maybe pull off?

If it has cultural significance, I highly doubt they can say no without a good excuse.

well i’ve been discriminated against before in a job environment and also i wanted to appear as the “western standard of presentable and professional” for my job interview. i have a bit of a issues voicing my truth and myself which i’m trying to work on to gain more self confidence. how would be the best way to communicate to my manager about this? i’ve never really experienced outside acceptance and so the thought of being vulnerable in that way kinda stumps me. :/

Oh man. I wish I could come be your advocate. I’ve had some experience advocating for my sister because she’s extremely shy and awful with anything confrontational. Just be like, hey, this has very deep significance to me, and I want to wear this because it’s very important to me.

i sent the message omg. honestly if i’ve actually found a company that isn’t bigoted about my culture i think i’d cry. i’ve never experienced it before. not even in school. it’s like walking around naked.

I’m proud of you! Like someone else said, it’s your culture, you’re allowed. If they are awful about it, call the proper phone number!

i used to be so confident and true to self. i am also that older sibling haha. but when it comes to myself unfortunately i don’t give myself the same protection and respect. working on it tho haha. thank you so much. :)

I wear bandanas and headscarves regularly at my store because I just like the way they look. You have a cultural reason to wear one, they literally cant force you to not wear it. However the scarf must be secured back otherwise it breaks the rules for hair

you’re allowed to wear a head scarf/covering if it’s for religious purposes.
