I’m pretty sure that’s an OSHA violation my dude
ThreatLevel7ish [OP] 41 points 2y ago
Oh definitely is, everyone working today complained to the PRC
Tylandredis 2 points 2y ago
osha apparently doesn’t set standards for temperatures. i looked it up briefly because my workplace reaches insane temps in spring/summer too /:
they-were-roomates 1 points 2y ago
Yikes really????
esaeklsg 64 points 2y ago
I knew of one store that had broken AC in summer and they stayed open until it got so bad the fridges couldn’t keep things in temp

Glad I didn’t work at either of these stores. I’m super heat sensitive and prone to lightheadedness and being unwell for days after. I would have walked out.
ThreatLevel7ish [OP] 38 points 2y ago
I almost got physically sick from the heat and one of my partners is anemic and she almost passed out. The ice machine was also broken so that was fun
mayor-em 16 points 2y ago
I worked a location during summer months with no AC for weeksssss, my baristas took turns puking in trash cans and everyone wore gym cloths
baseballgirl30 1 points 2y ago
what the FUCK that’s so awful
cinnamonmarigold 38 points 2y ago
How is this legal
garlicrotini 49 points 2y ago

Psychological-Egg713 8 points 2y ago
happy cake day !
julcarls 18 points 2y ago
Welcome. Our AC has been broken for 3 months now. We have all put in numerous tickets, yet the main dude, whoever tf that is just has to "approve" the fix. We live in Florida and it's almost June. Solidarity and report to OSHA <3
LatterRooster 2 points 2y ago
Should get paid and not work or they need to give you hours elsewhere
guavalemonades 1 points 2y ago
Holy shit m'dude, call PRC. That's extremely illegal.
elrobolobo 15 points 2y ago
Just change it two degrees, then change it two more, and then two more, just always going down
iStealSharpies 5 points 2y ago
How long apart do you have to keep adjusting it? It won’t let me do it even like 10 minutes apart
elrobolobo 1 points 2y ago
Oh I don't have the same thing, I was just being a smart Alec, sorry.
xclariss 11 points 2y ago
this happened to me last summer and it hit 98 , it took like 3 hours before we got permission to close and then had to clean for 2 hours in the same heat... i swear those cake pops had melted into GOO it was one of the worst shifts of all time so i feel u rn
Flappadingo 9 points 2y ago
Pro tip…hit the circle button then hold down the down arrow for 10-15 seconds

and it’s not an OSHA violation as anyone who has worked in a restaurant can attest to

It is however very unethical and should’ve be happening
saddestgirl1995 7 points 2y ago
Ay that's not legal
HippieinBlack 6 points 2y ago
I'm like a thousand percent sure that you all should have went home if it was above like 82 even. 94???? Not ok at all.
therealmegluvsu 8 points 2y ago
Grab and go restaurant I used to work in (not starbucks) hit 114° one summer when the AC broke. I was going in and out of consciousness on essentially an industrial rolling pin (huge "will grab fingers and pull you in" hazard), my assistant manager was nauseous and so lightheaded they could barely take orders/make change, and my coworker had her vision keep going in and out while she was using knives. We had fans and the door open and took breaks in the walk in cooler.

I texted my mom saying "hey you might need to pick me up from the hospital tonight" at about 98° and after explaining, she went and spent her own money to buy a big box of instant ice packs. By the time she showed up, it had hit the 105°+ mark.

Meanwhile, our store owner refused to get an emergency HVAC repairman because weekend rates are HIGH, then either rescheduled the Monday appointment to Thursday and/or didn't call any other company when the HVAC people canceled Monday. (Idk if I need to blame the HVAC company AND the owner or just the owner)

I got another job and put my 2 weeks in within a month.
Chemical-Less 6 points 2y ago
That's fucking crazy my guy I would have walked out. Props to you for being level headed enough to put in your two weeks lmao
therealmegluvsu 5 points 2y ago
Lol I was 18 and it was my first job. I was too scared to do anything except by the book. But thanks!
Necessary_Spring_828 4 points 2y ago
TRASH!!!
sammieduck69420 2 points 2y ago
i would literally just quit on the spot. deadass.
ThreatLevel7ish [OP] 2 points 2y ago
Honestly, if my shift wasn’t really good friends with me, I would’ve. I didn’t wanna leave him short and have to deal with that shit (because he’d get the brunt of it) so I stayed against my better judgment.
sammieduck69420 2 points 2y ago
mad props! keep up the awesome work and i appreciate your barista work so much
iStealSharpies 2 points 2y ago
Has anyone called the FCC number? What happens when you do
real-3st 3 points 2y ago
Usually 2 hours of holding and not much help I bet
jadddddyn 2 points 2y ago
My store has the same issue, it was 84 today and we were all dying 😩
shosh_c 2 points 2y ago
That is *awful*
zoooooobee 1 points 2y ago
At 100° all the coffee goes bad and is supposed to be thrown out at 85° partners lose all sanity :/ sorry you had to go through this, should've definitely closed down
Sgeatan 1 points 2y ago
I live in the south & last year our AC broke. It was so hot I almost passed out on numerous occasions. It always made me so angry we have so little control over the temp of the store.
real-3st 1 points 2y ago
you are not legally allowed to work in that extreme temperature lmao. They'll be lucky with a complaint. If anybody fainted they'd be in for a hugeeee lawsuit
