Starbucks "secret menu" is stupid. (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by the_price_is_right96
I don't know who decided to call it a "secret menu" but it implies that it exists. And it doesn't. And even if it did, I still wouldn't tell people what was on it. I hate when people get irritated because I don't know how to make the random shit drink they found on the internet because I "should because it's on the secret menu." If it is not on our actual menu, and you cannot tell me how to make it, I will absolutely refuse, even if I know what it is and how to make it.

I always tell customers that “secret menu” means it’s a secret from the baristas.

I'm using this

Thanks. I love it.

Same. All my friends ask me about the drinks and this is what they get told.
Ill-Notice3753 47 points 2y ago
I always tell them to tell me the ingredients only and it’s not gonna look Instagram worthy. I literally had a lady yell at me two weeks ago because I shook the passion tea in her mango dragonfruit with no dragonfruit sub passion tea no water instead of layering it on top for her (like she DIDNT ask for). I’m with you though. I’m over it. It also doesnt help that our company pushes “make the moment right” bs
chewbekkers 10 points 2y ago
Standards are relative unless it's on the menu so make the moment should only apply to menu drinks. You're not happy with your cappuccino because you *meant* Latte? Cool, I'll make it for you. You're not happy with your made up shit? Fuck off.
the_price_is_right96 [OP] 8 points 2y ago
Yeah. Definitely agree. I always tell people that I'd be happy to make it for them if they can tell me how, and they usually pick something else.

what really irks is me that some baristas allow it, like the cotton candy frappe I think it is? Or is it called the unicorn frappe, but the vanilla bean with raspberry syrup is one of the most known tiktok drinks, and seeing people ask for it like that as a non real menu drink and the barista allows it. Rather than telling them, not every barista will known what it is you’re talking about and it’s best to order it the way the recipe is
the_price_is_right96 [OP] 35 points 2y ago
The unicorn frap was a whole different disaster in April of 2017. And I STILL have people trying to order it sometimes. Even though, it was a limited time only drink, and we do not have anything that could recreate the drink.
Also, the cotton candy is not a tiktok drink. It's been around for wayyy longer than tiktok. The most famous tiktok drink is the iced white mocha with vanilla sweet cream cold foam, and caramel drizzle. But if someone comes up and asks if I can make the tiktok drink I say give them a smile and say "which tiktok drink? There are so many of them now. If you can give me the recipe I'm sure I can make it for you." In my absolute best customer service voice.

Same. I actually know a lot of the tik tok or "secret menu" drink recipes, but I pretend I don't so I don't make it harder on every other barista who isn't a sample-crazed (for partners when we are slow - which is never as of recent) maniac like myself. Also it's just annoying that they think we are keeping some super secret stuff from them. No babe, trust me, if Starbucks could put your grotesque $10.92 drink on the menu, they absolutely would just to suck you dry of all your money.
the_price_is_right96 [OP] 7 points 2y ago
Seriously! Like, at least if you're going to make a drink famous, make it rip Starbucks off in some way. Don't pay me $12 for a drink and act like that's an acceptable amount of money to pay for something that doesn't have alcohol or extra shots of espresso in it.

We have a local coffee shop that makes Cotton Candy Frappes. It's the only time I've ever had one that tasted like literal cotton candy. Absolutely amazing drink. Also that most famous TikTok drink sounds terrible and sickeningly sweet.
wanderer1522 13 points 2y ago
Well cotton candy was on the menu for a hot second like 4-5 years ago. They took like 3 popular fraps from the secret menu and were like "Whichever one sells the best is going to be on the official menu!" And then they never followed through 🤷
Even_Resolution_2097 1 points 2y ago
so the cotton candy is a drink you can get, but the raspberry syrup used to have a dye in it to make it pink in the VBF which is the base you'd use for the cotton candy frap. So technically - you can still get it but you'd order it as a VBF with raspberry syrup.

Though, maybe I'd add some dragon berry bits to it for the color. cuz they change it so now it'll still be white and not the pink it used to be.

I'm a partner in a store in Europe, and we DO NOT have the same stuff you have in the US. So when 13-year-olds come in and order tiktok drinks with bullshit names, and ingredients I didn't even know exist, I seriously consider quitting.
Many-Medicine6836 4 points 2y ago
I once told a woman we weren't trained how to make secret menu drinks and she was absolutely surprised. "Oh my god, really?!" YES really deBrA.
throwaway3456678 1 points 2y ago
it’s almost like the secret menu drinks aren’t on the actual menu 🥴
ObnoxiousR 3 points 2y ago
TIK TOK drinks are bombarding us. They are straight up ruining starbucks. From a cafe to a dessert drink shop. Sad.
Even_Resolution_2097 1 points 2y ago
On my last day I am going to write on our plastic protection sheet that we do not do tick tok drinks so please stop asking us.

however, that extra money does help with hours, so do pay 24.oo for that stupid drink.
throwaway3456678 1 points 2y ago
Absolutely. I started in August and it has changed drastically since. We sold so many white mochas (not heavily modified) and regular lattes, and now I swear I make MAYBE one latte a shift and it’s usually for an old man who has nothing better to do than yell at baristas
Even_Resolution_2097 1 points 2y ago
same. the rule at mine is that if the customer can't give us directions on it, we can't make it.
