No SSV scheduled (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by LeftSleeveRolled
So our SM occasionally forgets to schedule a SSV—sometimes only for about 15 mins, sometimes for more like 75 mins. If this happens, typically he previous shift will stay late or the next shift will come in early.

On Monday, I, a regular barista who’s been here 6 months was put in charge of the floor for an hour an a half because neither shift was available to cover it.

Yesterday, there was no shift scheduled for an entire four hours.

Just kinda wanted to know if there are any other SMs out there doing this?

30 min is the limit to not have a keyholder in the store. if this is a persistent issue I would talk to your SM & if it continues talk to your DM

Yeah that’s unacceptable. There ALWAYS needs to be a shift on the floor. It baffles me that you went four hours with no shift. What if you needed to open the safe? Or a cash drawer? Or the back door? Who’s gonna do the pull, or the order, or the inventory count? Baristas can’t do any of those things. Sure at my store sometimes we’re stretched and we’ll have an experienced barista be the play caller while the shift has to be off the floor for a little while but that’s the bare minimum that needs to be done to keep the floor functional. Talk to your DM about it, I guarantee your SM will cut that shit out asap. That’s more than a silly little mistake that’s a serious issue

Yeah, as the other commenters have said, this isn't ok. Sometimes a barista can act as play caller and stuff (I had to do this once when I was still a barista during the shift meeting), but you need to talk to your sm and dm about this. What if something comes up that a barista can't do, like getting into a cash drawer or opening the safe? That's not right to put yall through that
