Light Ice Shaken Question (self.starbucksbaristas)

A fellow Shift and I are having it out over this and I just need to know! If they ask for light ice and extra milk on the shaken espressos do we fill it to the top? I swear I read somewhere that we do, but she absolutely refuses to do so and micromanages anyone who does fill it. So do we fill it, or not?

The standard is to fill it to 1/4" from the top. So either way, regular, light ice, or no ice, it should be filled to there.

This was in a weekly update, of the customer orders light ice via mobile, we should assume they want the cup filled to standard 1/4”. If they ask in the cafe we should be advising them it only comes with a splash and of we do light ice there will be room at the top and ask them if they want extra milk.

That said, if they ask for no ice I give them 1/2 a short cup of milk and leave it at that. Because at that point they don’t want an iced shaken espresso. They want a latte.

Aw, your shift sounds as annoying as my manager is 🥰 my manager is obsessed with not giving customers more than they paid for, when the drink first came out she told us to give them water in place of the ice if they asked for lite ice... I did not do that

You have to look at the components of the drink.
Ice Shaken Expresso = Syrup + Shots + Ice + Milk.
If a customer is asking for Light Ice, assume they want extra milk because that’s the standard. It’s the same for Iced Caramel Macchiatos, Iced Lattes, Etc.

As long as we’re not putting ventis in trentas. I had a customer get mad at me for not filling her trenta to the top when she ordered a grande nitro with sweet cream, in a trenta extra ice. So I took a grande cup, filled it, then a short cup, a little over half of sweet cream and ice to the top. She was mad it wasn’t full.

I would go to your manager and say that the shift has been giving g you instructions that contradict the weekly update and ask if she could print it out for you to show her. I don't know your sm situation but if they are one of the good ones they are going to want to know about this.

Right? It’s just another ounce of liquid, when we dump several drinks a day just over ‘oh I wanted it hot/iced’ I don’t think it effects anything all that much.
