Idk about carpal tunnel, but I got tendinitis pretty badly working this job. Dull pain at the base of my wrist that would flare up my arm when it was bad. I couldn’t work for a while because I ignored it hooding it would go away which was dumb. But I was able to do a medical LOA, and my doctor’s appointments and physical therapy were covered via worker’s comp. If you trust your manager, chat with them about the issues you’ve been having because if you weren’t having this issue before, then it’s most likely a repetitive motion injury from working as a barista. If you can, get it covered! Also PT was a lifesaver if you can manage to go!

In addition to the other great recommendation comments, Look into getting some waterproof or “sport” KT tape, or the cheaper store brand of the same stuff. I looked up some youtube videos on how to tape your wrist and thumb for carpal tunnel pain. It really helped when I was working on bar, because the chunky braces got disgusting and soaking wet, and just made it hard to move my hands to steam milks, flip blenders upside down, etc... and the tape held really well and lasted a day or two between reapplying. Also do a few minutes of hand stretches before every shift.

I have it - my dr recommended wearing a brace at night, and try to use your non dominant hand

Also take a break from bar if youre on it a lot, try to get a few shifts on DTO or front to give your arm a break

I have severe carpal tunnel. Wear splints at night, listen to your body. If doing something is causing more pain, stop doing it. I powered thru a lot of my symptoms in the past and it’s made mine worse. The worst position for this for me is actually CS because there’s so much lifting and carrying. Bar isn’t the best but I’ve learned to adapt pretty well. If your symptoms persist see a doctor. I’m likely going to have to have surgery.
