Although it's dumb, they may have disabilities. Or honestly, if they are paying a bunch of money for a drink, it's up to them to enjoy it however they enjoy it.

Though I get the frustration, I understand that some people can’t drink from the lid because of issues with their month or throat, whether it’s from surgery or not. It’s great when those people also bring in their own straws to help reduce plastic waist, but I try not to judge a person if they need a straw from us

i don't get annoyed, but i just wish customers knew WHY we have nitro lids for cold foam drinks.

the purpose is for the coffee/cold brew/whatever to cut through the foam. it's a unique and measured flavor experience for that express purpose.

putting a straw into it makes zero sense because then you're drinking the coffee down and the foam on top is just...sitting there

On the one hand, of course you're supposed to sip cold foam. On the other, a Frappuccino has whipped cream on top and is drunk with a straw. I tend to not judge how people like their drinks, as taste is subjective. Also, they could have more objective reasons for using a straw, such as a disability or a desire not to stain their teeth.

Speaking of that, though, am I the only one who gets annoyed when a barista puts a flat lid on my drink with cold foam instead of a nitro lid? I'm gonna get a lot less of the cold foam in my sip, dude.

I always ask if they want a straw. Who cares.

i get annoyed when they do things outside of the norm and i feel pressure that im failing.

we're expected to do 2 somewhat conflicting things:

1. serve them efficiently
2. serve them in a cafe style connecting way. to me that is laid back and not so concerned with time.

so they want customized personal experience, but they want it fast. that clashes and the result is stress on us.

I love the sippy lid. Although I do get less ice because of it. Getting knocked in the teeth with a chunk of ice is painful for me.

It’s frustrating for sure! Starbucks should do hemp straws though. My concern isn’t the straws it’s how bad for the environment they are. I’m sure Starbucks can afford production you know?

Lol I agree. I only get annoyed because we had to keep the straws behind the counter due to covid and then we FINALLY put them back out, only to have to keep them behind the counter again due to the shortage. I swear I hear "CAN I HAVE A STRAW???" being squawked in my ear so many times a day, I hear it in my sleep. Not to mention, it slows us down and impedes drink accuracy to have to keep stopping what we are doing in the middle of whatever countless times per hour to grab them for ppl.

No. Even when you explain to them the purpose of the nitro lid, they just shrug and have their pointless drink with their pointless straw.

No because they are literally drinking the drink WRONG. The point of the lid is to drink the foam WITH the cold brew. Not drink all the cold brew and then drink the foam. Or I guess since everyone puts foam on everything now, whatever you put the foam on top of, iced white mocha etc. If it was meant to be drank through a straw it would have had a flat lid on it (pre strawless lids obvi).
