ok so i’ve worked here for many months now but never learned how to clean the ovens and somehow it was never an issue but now my availability is more open for the summer and the chances of me having to ask are exponentially growing. can someone please teach me so i don’t embarrass myself?

Sure! You use the purple spray (not the red or blue very important) to clean the ovens. First take out the tray and other parts, the grates need to be cleaned thoroughly through the sink and dishwasher, you can also send the tray through but I would scrape it first. Your store should have a scraper and if not tell your ssv to order one! You spray the walls and very importantly the metal on the inside of the oven door then scrape scrape scrape! Use towel to clean, might have to wring it out. Your store might also use steel wool to clean the door just make sure that gets replaced often, no one wants dirty tools used for cleaning. Make sure to always clean scraper after use and dry the ovens thoroughly before turning back on so you dont get fumes.

To add on this- if you have the new ovens there’s a thermometer looking icon at the bottom of the screen in the center. Hit that, it will ask if you want to cool down and yes, you do. Stand to the side and crash the door. You’ll hear it pushing the air out. I also like to give my partners a heads up that it’s cooling so no one walks into the air flow.

I like to spray it down while it’s still a little warm. It just seems to work better.

But- there’s absolutely NOTHING wrong with telling your shift that because of your availability you’ve never worked a shift when the ovens need to be cleaned. Express that you’re happy to do it, but could use some instruction and help locating what you need. I did that my first time (I’d been there 6 months) and my SSV that day was happy to help me out.

ok see i’ve been working at the store for 2 months and learned this was the way but apparently you’re supposed to take it to the back and hand wash it?
LatteMaster 2 points 2y ago
You can hand wash it as well. It just needs to be thoroughly cleaned. Hand washing does little for the tray.

Let the oven cleaner sit for 10 minutes. It makes a difference! I like to take the oven tray out with tongs and bring it to a sink while the oven is cooling off to get a head start. If you don’t currently have a scraper, on of the hanging tags for the coffees will do.

Make sure you wipe out ALL the cleaner with a rag before turning the oven back on because it will start to smell funky.
