Birthday Drink Scam??? (self.starbucksbaristas)

In the last two days alone, we have had five different customers try to redeem a bday drink, but explaining that their app isn't showing it.
I'm wondering if this is some new viral way to [apparently??] score a free drink or if maybe the app is actually just glitching as of late? Anyone else seen anything similar?

I had a customer who would come in every couple of weeks claiming this but one day I comped her drink because I knew the app was acting problematic. However 2 days later she comes in saying it was her birthday and the app wasn’t showing her reward. I told her “oh miss, I thought your birthday was 2 days ago and it’s only usable ON your birthday.” She looked at me with the most wide eyed look and left the store with no drink.

i had that happened to me last week but her birthday was showing up in the app settings. ask to see the date in their app info and then verify with an id! thats what i did and it proved it was just a glitch

just check IDs that’s what i do and usually if they say they don’t have it on them you know it’s a scam!

i’ve been told to do it, we do it with partners so.. there is nothing illegal about asking for an ID

Before i was hired at starbucks this happened to me when i tried to redeem my bday drink. Wasnt a glitch though, apparently i had to use the app previously for my birthdag to show up with the reward but it still showed up under my profile and the barista gave me the drink anyways
