-Tall Rant- Considering hanging the apron... (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Kyde_Drakes
After work, on a horrible day of having only 4 people, in a store that makes no less than 5K during morning peak, I went home and applied to a much better paying job. Thinking that I was most likely going to be turned down.

Now it looks like I might actually get that job, and I’m torn. I love my coworkers -save for like 3- and I would be putting my boss in a very tight spot as another Shift Lead is quitting in a few weeks. However, I’m pinching pennies to make it by even with being promoted to Shift Lead. Overtime has been my saving grace, but that’s ending next week. No more OT. I can’t afford to work there...

It’s been nearly three years working in this company, and I’m just tired. I don’t know what to do. I’m tired of working myself ragged and watching as my fellow baristas literally break down. One had to work with a broken hand, after breaking it on the bar in the middle of peak!

Now, I obviously don’t have a different job, yet, but the idea of leaving has me both happy and depressed.

Your store makes 5k in 4 hours and you can barely afford to live month to month. Leave

You don’t owe anyone anything besides yourself. It doesn’t matter if your manager is put in a tough position it’s literally their job to figure out staffing.

You can keep in touch with your coworkers.

That job clearly doesn’t give a fuck about you. Leave. You can do better. You deserve better. You’re capable of receiving better.

If it’s meant to be it will be ❤️ start applying elsewhere see what options you have. You can always keep in touch with the coworkers you have now in a much nicer setting I.e. have a nice dinner and actually catch up. I’m in a similar position myself after 5.5 years, I love my partners but I have to do what I think is best for myself, my family, career. Best of luck to you.

Thank you, that’s very uplifting and I needed that. My boss keeps referring to former partners as ‘only customers’ as if he’s trying to put down the people who left, and I feel like it’s a bit degrading. I love -most- of my fellow baristas, but dang it we deserve better than what we are getting.

It all starts with your sm... sorry some are just 💩. You can’t control them only yourself, don’t let their negativity bring you down.

Congratulations on taking that step! I hope you get it and take it. Sbux will always be there. Your partners will eventually move on too, maybe you'll stay friends, it's in part up to you

Sometimes it's so hard to make the choice that's best for you, especially when there are people you care about. But they will adapt. They will make do. You've got to take care of yourself, and it sounds like this is clearly a better choice for you!!
