because she wanted cream so i was verifying that she wanted the americano with cream instead of a latte with cream… we verify everything in our store

By standards there is no need to ask about the water. It is like asking if a customer wants the ice in their frappuccino.
Putting half creamer and half water is also way to much creamer even for extra cream. At that point your making an americano misto, which would have the milk steamed. Americanos should only get a splash of creamer.
Now if they where asking for the drink to be made with creamer then the customer needs some training on drinks.
