tw// mention of ed and sh

this job is not worth it for $10 an hour. i’ve worked here for 7 months and it has completely destroyed me. yes i was making good money for a minute there but now that hours are cut i’m just poor and mistreated. i have never been sick so many times in a short period of time as i have here. i genuinely think it’s the stress physically manifesting itself. also prior to working here i hadn’t had migraine or fainting flair ups in years but now it’s pretty regular. i also have relapsed with my ed and sh since starting. couple that with the constant abuse from customers and insane shifts and it’s enough to drive someone mad. it’s just not worth it to deal with all of that for a measly $10 / hr. you could buy 1.5 drinks for one hour of time 😐. recently had some shit happen with some bitchy shifts and i just want to just drop an “okay lmao” in the gc and ghost them and never come back to work. i know i can’t do that but i can’t stand the thought of working another 2 weeks min here.

You technically don’t HAVE to work the 2 weeks min. Starbucks won’t even be a good (or bad) reference on your resume (they’ll just say you worked there—so neutral reference I guess). As my mom says all the time: “You don’t HAVE to do anything but die (eventually)”

Don’t stay if it causes you that much stress. It’s not worth it. Mental health is worth wayyyy more than that measly 10/hr

Edit: only stay the last 2 weeks if you want the possibility of being rehired in the future

First, I worked for starbucks off and on for over 10 years. Standing and pivoting in place while on cement is terrible on joints.
Secons, There is a toxic belief an employee can always be doing better. Your never gonna be good enough, and they want workers on max settings every day despite believe you will never reach max level.

Third, I personal did not struggle with customers, but I know many other baristas struggle with the constant condescending nature of them. It's hard watching fellow workers be treated as less then human, over something so mundane.

I managed to get a job as a bus driver, and life has improved ten fold. I been told to slow down constantly, and not to take the job to seriously. I been late a few times, and my bosses said it was no big deal. I get paid more, and if a kid is being rude, I get to tell them to stop.
There is lots of jobs that are not over dramatic like starbucks is. I wish you the best of luck to find something that works better for your health.
