this is going to sound stupid i’m so sorry but can someone please simplify the way to do tips? i learned but my ADHD brain also doesn’t retain information and the paper i wrote it on became a cat toy. i don’t have a tip shift atm but one of the people who knows how doesn’t like me and the others are busy a lot of the time with SSV work. i don’t really have anyone to impress but i don’t want to be told wrong info and i think if i ask the person who doesn’t like me that’s what i’ll get.

tldr/ how do you do tips

It's super easy once you get it down. Get all the tip bags for the previous week, double check the dates and such. Remember starbucks does Monday-sunday. Break them open (usually one or 2 at a time, don't overwhelm yourself by making a massive pile of change) and roll the coins. I usually put the singles into piles of 20 as I go, and any larger bills off to the side. Once you have everything counted, you're going to need the tip distribution report. A shift will have to print it for you. Add up all the money and look at the total amount of tip-able hours at the bottom of the report. For easy numbers let's say you have $600 in tips and a store total of 500 hours of labor. 600/500=1.2. Your rate per hour is $1.20. Now you go back to each individual partners hours for the week and multiply it by that 1.20 an hour. Once you have that you should have how much money everyone should get. At my store we round to the nearest dollar, meaning any left over change that wasn't rolled simply goes into next week's tips. Also if someone's total comes out to say 28.7, that's just $29. Once I have everyone's dollar amounts I usually add it all up and double check it matches the amount of money in the tips. But that's pretty much it! Just make sure you have your phones calculator app open and the store cash counter handy if you can.

No problem! I did tips for my store for years and I taught a couple other partners how to do them too. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

1. get the tip report. I think you have to be at least a SSV to access it.
2. count the money
3. do math: money/hours = tip rate
4. multiple each partners hours by the tip rate to get each partners tips
5. put each partners tips in a bag and seal it.
6. in my store we make each partner initial the tip report when they pick up their tips.

Get tip bags for week.

Separate bills from coins

Separate coins into cups

Count bills on cash counter

Count coins on cash counter and speedster into rolls

Add all totals and divide by tip-able hours

Multiply dollars/hr by everyone’s individual hour and round up if over .5 round down if under.

Add up all totals to see if you have enough tips to cover everyone’s tips. Should be under or equal to all cash total.

Distribute.
