Is Starbucks a good place to work? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by madz_education
I’m having to quit my current job because I’m starting graduate school in the fall and I’m only going to be able to work 3 days. I was wondering how Starbucks is with working around school schedules. Also, to those who work for or have worked for Starbucks, would you recommend it as a decent place to work? I understand a lot depends on location but give me your thoughts/feedback.

It’s not worth it. Get your foot in the door as a host or waiter. You’ll make far more money and not be worked to the bone. Starbucks is pinching pennies harder than ever. Not a good company to work for.

This sub is full of disgruntled employees who do not represent the average Starbucks partner. Take anything you read here with a grain of salt. I've been with the company a decade. It certainly isn't perfect, but overall it's been a positive experience for me.

I'm also a grad student! And I just started working at Starbucks. It does depend on location, manager, etc but I'm finding it to be a good (and flexible) position so far.

Make sure you give them a heads up that you will be a student and always offer that you can pick up shifts as long as you're available. I told my manager that I'd be available 3 days a week regularly and weekends as long as I'm given advance notice (and not just thrown on the schedule). I was hired during the interview so just go in dressed business casual with neutral colors (look at Starbucks dress code - a simple Google search will find this) and you should be fine as long as your availability checks out.

Awesome, thank you!! My available days are the weekends so I’m hoping that will help (assuming people like to take weekends off)

Oh yeah definitely! People love not working weekends so the fact that you're willing to will probably help quite a bit!
