Starbucks Baristas: The daily grind

comparing covid by nation (self.starbucksbaristas)

60 covid cases in Australia leads to lockdown, while 15,000 daily new cases in America means it's time to go back to normal. And starbucks thinks its time to re-open seating, and my DM is already telling us to prepare to take down the plexiglass barriers and take off our masks. And in that conversation this DM had zero sympathy for the concerns expressed by 3 baristas in my store who got covid.

I wonder if we will be forced to take masks off, or if we have the choice to keep it on.

The weekly update (last week, maybe) made it sound like wearing a mask after it’s lifted would be acceptable. That said- it didn’t directly say it, but it sure hinted at it.

I for one want to get rid of that stupid plexiglass barrier... It doesn't do anything because partners constantly have to cross it anyway to get ice or make frapps etc. Plus people are always running into it and it's just a hassle.

My store sees lots of spit talkers, and people pulling down their masks to order. So I think it helps some, especially when we're letting customers not wear masks and no longer supposed to make them wear a mask.

Oh wait you're talking about the barrier between customer and partner. Yes we should definitely keep that. I was talking about the divider between the 2 espresso machines so the 2 partners on bar don't contaminate each other. That's what needs to go

We broke our bar guard. Couldn't order another cuz it was backordered 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ oh noooo

The bar guards are terrible, and with a narrow line make it nearly impossible to work. It also seems like it does very little to protect us.

Ours broke several times. Accidentally of course. Sm just kept reordering it. We hardly ever had it up. My old store years ago had one up behind the bar so syrup wouldn't splash onto the customers and into the cafe. That's where they should be. It was a bitch to clean, but it prevented people from hanging over into our bar area and touching everything.

Yall still use those bar dividers?! We couldn't stand ours so we repurposed it months ago to create a full barrier from reg to bar haha

No one at our store can stand it either but we still have to use it
