just found out i've been shorted on paychecks for a year (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by tang0foxtr0t
MA barista hired in 2019 at $13.50 an hour, bumped up to $14 in 2020, then when i started working again in may of 2020 when stores opened up again, i see my pay rate was only $12.77 and has been that way until the pay raise at the beginning of this year. under a misguided direction i was told to go on a "leave of absence" for the two weeks between when the stores opened and when i started working again due to my classes ending. i was never informed if this would cause a change in my pay rate, and i now realize it's why my paychecks have seemed short for months. what do i do about this?

Did you switch locations or is this all at the same store. I would definitely ask your manager why your pay was decreased and where in writing that was provided to you at any point. If she/he cannot provide it I might call up pcc and ask about how you can get your money. If they also do not have a good answer the only other option is the legal route, but to be honest it probably would cost you more to fight it. Not sure entirely tho. Start with manager and work it up the chain!

I switched location a couple times after being sent home from school and then moving back into the city, but it was all in the same state.

Are you sure it's not what's been coming out for taxes?

My pay rate specifically decreased, not just the total after classes.

Thats weird. I'd talk to your SM about it. I made sure some was coming out for taxes because at my last job they didn't take any out for federal, only state, but I was lucky I didn't make enough to owe the irs anything. I was looking at my partner hours page yesterday and it said my pay rate was $0.00
