First time crying at Starbucks / Venti Rant in a Trenta Cup (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by cringeqween13
I started working at the Bux in late February and yesterday was nothing short of a shit show from open to close (I'm honestly used to it). Last night I was soloing DT but our DTR wasn't working so I was having to run payments to our café register (still surprised I didn't slip and bust my butt). When we finally got DTR back up and running I was already sore and stressed that it would stop working again. Then I had a couple come through and spend almost 3 minutes at the speaker box on the phone with someone before ordering 3 differnet drinks in the most complicated way possible. When they got to the window the driver was still on the phone and not paying attention so every time I tried to hand him a drink I'd say "here you go" and end up hanging my arm out the window waiting for him to take the drink. After they'd gotten their drinks they continued to sit at the window like they were waiting for something else. When I went to see why they hadn't drove off the woman in the passenger seat said her Tall Java Chip Frappuccino tasted watery so I called to our bar people for a remake. They get it remade, I'm not paying too much attention as they've already been in the line for about 10 minutes and there were other people behind them so I hand them a Grande Java Chip without the mocha drizzle and crumble topping and this woman was not having it. I say I'm sorry I'll get the bar person to add the toppings, she ask if we even know how to make the drink and just wants a refund and will go to a different store. I give her the refund for the tall drink, get her to sign the receipt, and then she starts asking to speak to the manager. Our SM was already off and we don't have an ASM so I call over the SSV and can already feel my voice shaking. I step away for a second, he finishes up with them, they drive off, and the next person pulls up to the window while a new car pulls up to the speaker box. I turn on the headset to take the person at the speaker's order and my eyes start to water while I'm taking their order. I have my back turned away from the person currently at the window and when I finished taking the person at the speakers's order I just broke and started bawling my eyes out and hyperventilate. Someone took over for me and I went to the back to try to calm myself down. I've had people fuss at me before, but it's never affected me that bad. Maybe it's cause it's that time of the month or just the stress of everything else in life. Whatever it was I hate feeling like that because it's so hard for me to stop hyperventilate once I start. If you've read this far plz DM me pictures of pets. I was stuck on DTR for like 2 hours and didn't see a single pet so that made the who situation worse.

I’ve cried on DT several times. It’ll be okay (it’s okay to cry)*sending virtual hugs and cookies*

The SSV was really nice about it. He said I handled it really well and that he and our SM would've handled it the same way and that it was okay but he was glad I didn't give those customers the satisfaction of seeing me cry. I'm the kind of person who cries when they're happy, sad, and angry which is annoying because I wasn't sad I was really just frustrated with them.

People don’t understand! Baristas juggle a ton. On top of it, people verbally abuse us daily. Yet we’re suppose to remain cool, calm, and collected. Of course we always will work with dignity and respect. But dam some people are wilding out here. We can only take so much of it. You handled it amazingly. Keep doing your best!

I am seriously so thankful that my SSVs and Manager care about how other partners are treated by customers. Somethings let pass because at this point none of us are phased but cursing, threatening, insulting, and obvious abuse doesn't slide.

I’m sorry that happened to you!

Hi, SSV for 2 months and I cried on the floor today because it was straight shit all day. It’s okay! I always have said “if you don’t cry, spill, or burn yourself at least once a day, do you REALLY work for sbux?” My SM even agrees with me. It’s hard to deal with some of these customers. It makes the nice regulars seem so perfect.
