Who knows the new CS cycle? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by happybowlita83
Most of the ssv at the store I'm currently at don't know how to do CS and it's the role they're on every day all day. Yes, even during peak... worst of all they're not even doing the old CS cycle they just do things without a timer and leave all product to be made by the closers and mids.... how should I address it with my sm?

I would tread lightly so as to not ruffle feathers, particularly if you’re new to the store and still building relationships.

Does anyone else see a problem with how things are done or the lack of prep work done? If not, I’d probably let it go for now. If there’s an opening to bring it up, like people are bitching about the way things don’t get done, maybe throw out a comment like, “at my last store, the SSV did XYZ” and we ran a true CS role with the timer and everything and it seemed to make things go a little smoother. Maybe we could try that?”

I've probably been there for almost a year... the morning crew for the most part has nothing to say other than me hehe but the mid ssvs have stated they hate being held responsible for catching up what the opening shift won't do.
For example on a daily basis a mid ssv comes in 15-20mins. early to make cold brew plus any and all product we used during opening... lemonade, whipped creams, mocha, sweet cream, caramel drizzle bottles. Compared to openers which only make like 2 sweet creams and 2 lemonades on a daily basis.

I've tried that method they (the morning crew) just think its easier the wqy they've been doing it but the mods and I don't. :/ the sm supports opening shifts opinions a lot more though.

At least the mid crew does some of it... At my store it's a regular issue where the openers leave everything in perfect condition for the mid crew, as us closers did for them the night before... But then mid flies through everything and it's consistently a disaster when us closers come in. And lately "mids" haven't even really been mids, I come in at like 1 or 2 most days, so we've still got most of the day left where we have to function.

Our openers are basically your mids then they run through everything and just do basic things like trash run, dishes, and filling the food.... then mids and closers leave everything perfect for us openers. I honestly feep bad because I know we could support so much more with an average of 7-8 partners from 7am-11am... like we honestly don't need a CS that's constantly in the back during peak... I don't mind the easy opening shifts, but I'm getting tired of hearing the openers act like we have it hard compared to the other shifts wuen I know we have it the easiest because I've worked mids as well.

At least they have you paying attention to that and caring about it right now, maybe it'll make a difference in due time. The rest of your openers might not be happy about it, but maybe talk to your store manager and be like hey I feel like we aren't doing enough for the rest of the stores partners but nobody opening listens when I suggest we do more to help out.

Also... The openers at my store also act like they have it hardest, and I don't have anything else to go off of other than what they say.. and I'm a night owl so I likely will never actually work a morning opening shift. Is it actually not as crazy as they make it seem? I mean I am at a very high volume store which might make a difference, but I've always wondered because their shift is so short compared to nights and I know how much we go through.
