One of the shot glasses spontaneously exploded last night??? I wasn’t anywhere near it and it just fucking shattered. Has this happened to anyone else??? (reddit.com)

The tops of the machines get hot there, nothing is supposed to be on that platform. Decades ago it was for keeping “for here” mugs warm

Agreed. Too hot up there for glass
Kittywizarrr 2 points 2y ago
I was thinking that was the case
Haunting-Message-953 1 points 2y ago
That’s funny, because we keep cup sleeves there😁
MilaDuke 5 points 2y ago
We keep our sugar packets up there lol

Too hot, the heat made em blow up. Hasn't happened to me at bux, but at a previous job and it's so jarring lol.

You guys have your pitchers labeled & water(?) in them? One looks like it has ice in it, what is that for? Our pitchers aren’t labeled, we have three by one machine (one is holding the foam spoon), & none of them have any liquids in them until we use them for steaming.

they’re soaking the steam wand in ice water, it helps to remove milk residue build up and can be scraped off with a lid

Ohhhh, thank you for your answer! We just wash them at night in the back. We do have a different machine, maybe that’s why? I would have never thought that ice water works better than hot water. Would that work too for build up on the steaming pitchers?

tbh i don’t really know the science behind it either but it works really well, and i’ve found dissolving a cafiza tablet in really hot water and scrubbing helps with the calcium build up and with cleaning nasty shakers and stuff too

Thank you so much for answering & your advice!! I hope you have a splendid life, dude! 😎

It exploded with such force that it knocked the 2nd shot glass (on the counter) down from the top of the espresso machine.

I had the same thing happen when one of my coworkers was walking past one on the counter and accidentally knocked it off onto the floor. It shattered into a million pieces and we were all confused because my SSV told us they’re meant to not break even if they do fall...the only explanation we could come up with is it must’ve fell on just the right spot and it just shattered. It was still strange and to this day we are still finding pieces of glass under our cabinets from it.

The new shot glasses are shatterproof. That means that they don't *shatter* and form small, sharp pieces/shards. Instead, they break into more uniform chunks like the one in the picture.
Huge_Crab_7425 2 points 2y ago
They are shatter resistant, not shatter proof
LeatherTurnip1224 1 points 2y ago
Ohh ok, I’m still a green bean so I didn’t know that. Thank you lol
Proof_Papaya296 3 points 2y ago
Yes. One shattered randomly in the dish pit. Wasn’t thrown, nor was it in hot water.

I’m pretty sure that would be classified as ghost activity
