it is NOT just your store. starbucks intentionally understaffs to keep labor costs low and to make reports look good. you CAN and SHOULD take time off. next time tell your manager i. advance that you WILL NOT be working “x date- z date”. finding coverage is your managers job, not yours.

Lol I tried that and they denied my time off request due to coverage shortage. Called out and was talked to by my DM and SM that I can’t call out anymore.

they have no legal right to tel you you cannot call out. pretty sure starbucks own policy is three weeks notice. if they get on to you for telling them in advance and not showing up, or if they write you up/punish you for it- then contact your state labor board. if you have free time you might also try contacting a local lawyers guild about what your rights are.

Take the time you need/ the time you’ve earned. Just put in the book for that week take a picture. 21 days ahead is plenty of time.

We are so understaffed that my DM gave my boss an ultimatum to hire 8 new people in a month. So, my boss just tried to hire 4 new people. Out of the 4 only 1 showed up to work the day after they were hired. Now we have a couple people quitting.

Same Extremely understaffed here. I’m a night shift/closer and a lot of my night crew are people who just graduated high school so they’re going to college in like a month or two. That’ll be five people gone and my manager keeps hiring morning crew when there’s at least 10 of them in the mornings already. :)
