I'm wondering what to do in this situation (self.starbucksbaristas)

We have a new SM, and obviously since partners everywhere are dropping like flies, we have a ton of green beans that need training. Herein lies the problem: my SM seems to think that, instead of scheduling them with a designated trainer to get their FOH training, it'd be "easier for everyone" to just schedule them on the floor as basically coverage, mark it as training in the book, and have them "shadow" more experienced baristas, who are expected to "tutor" them. I've told her multiple times that as an SSV, this actively makes my life harder, as I basically have one less person on the floor because I have to have someone babysit them, as well as the SUPER shady fact that it means nobody is getting paid a training bonus for "tutoring" them. It's a disservice to the existing baristas, because they're not trained to train, and it's frankly a disservice to the green beans, because they're simply not getting trained. It usually means that after their "training," I'm stuck with baristas I can't do anything with beyond dishes and food, because I don't have the resources to get them confident anywhere else. Since my SM won't listen, and the DM doesn't seem to care either, is there anywhere else I should look to try and get something done about it?

This is how we were expected to train our last several hires. Most quit.

If you’ve approached the SM and they aren’t listening, escalate it. There’s a corporate standard for training and that’s not it.

Yeah that's... definitely beyond shady. Call Ethics and Compliance and try to get a paper trail if you can.

Maybe ethics?

Is this not normal? This always happens in our store - I got so tired of it I did research online & taught myself how to make everything and ended up getting promoted to barista trainer and SSV because I’d end up teaching the new hires properly when they’d be put shadowing someone, because I knew how much it sucked not being taught things. You guys get training time???

Nope! Starbucks standard is I believe 20 hours give it take (it usually ends up being 3 shifts) of one-on-one training with a barista trainer. Yes, still on the floor while open, but neither trainer nor green bean is supposed to be considered coverage.
