switching to mornings (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by millzzzzzzzzz
so i’m thinking of switching to mornings because i think it would just overall fit my schedule better. anyone who has done both morning and night shifts, how does it differ? or is it relatively similar? i’m a little nervous just because i don’t know anyone on the morning block so if anyone has any experience, it would be much appreciated! :)

This heavily depends on your store, but for mine that is mostly hit by morning commuters as it's just off the highway, it's honestly insane because there is the morning rush. Opening is easier than closing, but you're on a stricter time limit so it can feel like you're under a lot of pressure when you're first learning how to open. The really nice thing is going home before 1pm and getting most of your day back. Customers are very cranky because they haven't had caffeine or whatever yet.

If your store properly staffs mornings, mornings are easier, but you will be in planted positions a lot more than with closing shifts, where every position floats a bit to help with closing tasks. The customers will probably be ruder just because they haven t had caffeine and are always in a rush.

I have done morning afternoon and closing and mornings are my favorite shifts. Things are more hectic and customers are meaner I think but also flies by and you get a lot of your day for yourself.

In my store I work both mornings and afternoons. Mornings are definitely more hectic but most of the time the shifts fllllyyyyy by because they’re so busy. The afternoons are typically chill for the most part but they do feel like they go by a little slower. It also totally depends on the shifts that work morning v. Afternoons as well.
