Dear fellow midshifts, (self.starbucksbaristas)

Where do you guys normally put yourself in your play from like 12-4ish? Traditionally in my store we put ourselves in front because that way I can flex places like food and CS and if someone needs a bathroom break/check baristas in/slide around at my free will (our drive through and MO&P is much higher than our cafe traffic). However today during a SSV meeting my boss told us she expects us to be on DTO, which I just don’t feel will be as effective, but I’m trying to be a good little SSV and have a “growth mindset” so I’d love to hear others perspectives

we used to always have the shift be on CS, which was terrible because the CS cycle wouldn’t get done at all.

now we have the shift on DTO, most times. never on front till because that’s usually a planted position and the shift needs to be able to walk around the store if needed

I don’t want this to come across as rude, because this is an honest question, but isn’t DTO a planted position as well? I know I can see the drive through and what not, but it’s no more flexible than front

Our shifts often DTO from the cafe. I really like that situation if I'm DTR because I like to stage the orders myself, I do it faster than someone who is understandably distracted by customers and their orders, I grab straws and stoppers faster than having to ask the DTO and wait on them (our SM took straws/stoppers away from DTR) I grab a cup and ask a partner on bar to put whip in it for a puppuccino so I'm not touching whip with my filthy money hands. We've had some of our best dt times doing it like this

nope! you can actually look at the play builder (ipad) and it’ll tell you what positions are planted and which are not.

front till is planted because technically you need to always be by the till or in customer view so you can see if you have a customer.

DTO can go into the back, do dishes when there’s no cars, get supplies for the bar people, etc. front till isn’t supposed to go into the back at all, technically.
