Is there a way to change how many hours a week you’re available to work ? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Accomplished-Claim94
When I first began working for this company I put that I was able to work UP TO 35 hours a week, but I have open availability. I was fine with my hours until recently, my manager has me working 39 hours a week. I would be fine with this except I’m only a barista. I’m basically working as a full timer but I don’t get any of the benefits and I feel like I deserve a raise or something. I’ve already asked my manager for a higher position but she basically said no. It really bothers me how I’m only off by one hour, and I feel really used. I like my coworkers, but I hate my manager and how she uses me.

Most places you get full time benefits at 30 hours, at Starbucks it's 20 so you're already getting all the benefits you're just not getting an SSV or higher pay rate. If you worked more than 40 hours you'd be going into overtime.

That being said I think it's entirely reasonable to reiterate to your manager that you are only available 35 hours per week. You're just not really missing out on anything by working 39 vs 40 hours.

Ugh this. I’ve said many times I can only work UP TO 25 hours a week as I’m a full time student and I’m regularly scheduled for at least 30 per week. I’ve brought it up to my SM many times. As far as I know it is in my availability, but also you should get benefits at 20? Unless you are licensed store and it’s different idk

If your manager is scheduling more hours than you should talk to them. But you can change availability and hours you wanna work on the Starbucks partner hours app on your phone but the manager has to approve it which might be the hard part.

If you work at a corporate store, you do get benefits for being a barista. You just need to pass the audit first.
