Anyone jump from Barista trainer to Shift Supervisor after being away from the company for 7yrs… (self.starbucksbaristas)

I’m reapplying to Starbucks after raising a family and working two other supervising jobs (at different companies). I’m curious if I’ll be back at the bottom as a little green bean…I know TONS has changed since 2013, but I’m confident everything will come back to me and I’ll pick up the new things quickly. What do you think? What have you seen if you’ve been with the company for a long time?

I've been here since before you left. There have been changes, certainly. If you haven't stayed connected with the public news about Starbucks, the biggest change is honestly all the absurd customizations and drift away from a focus on the coffee (miss you, Howard!). It was probably about the time you left that I heard the words "secret menu" for the first time 🙄. Other than that, some changes to various routines and QASA expectations, but nothing momentous. We have ipods to make counts easier now, so that's fancy (I had to do one on paper last week and about lost my mind. Remembered that we always used to do that!).

I think if you land in a good store and find that you pick it back up quickly, you can be moved up the food chain quickly too. We're definitely still evaluating each of our hires for leadership roles based on their performance rather than longevity. Everyone is happy to find a good rehire! Good luck!

Thanks so much! I’m actually excited to have all the new tech. I’m from the days of writing orders on cups and doing everything on paper. And ah yes, the secret menu…that was all the buzz when I was leaving in 2013. Thanks Instagram hahaha

When something about the sticker process breaks down and we need to write on cups, I always think it's unfortunate that 90% of our staff have lost that skill. They can usually still decipher the written cup notes if I'm the one to do the writing. But if I receive a written cup that someone else tried to do on the fly, it can be marked pretty creatively.

And however inconsequential this is in real life, it makes me feel the need to buy a walker and some high fiber cereal: partner numbers have reached the 3xxxxxx's! I remember the day I found someone had been assigned my partner number but 1mil later, and wanted to cry. And that was a while ago now.

I just came back after seven years ! I left as a shift on good terms and was able to return as a shift. The SM was a little hesitant to jot start me back at barista, but they are definitely in need of employees so the timing worked out. The new drinks and machines were a lot at first, especially since my barista re-training was very short (2 2-hour shifts). Good luck !!
