A Stressed Barista (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by HorrorEmployment6601
So, I figured it’d be safer to post here than the target Reddit..I’m a very paranoid person and it makes more sense to post this here;

I’m a Tarbucks barista who has been on medical leave for a while…and, in the time I have been away I’ve come to realize just how detrimental my specific store/leadership and job have become to my mental and physical health. I won’t go into much detail except for the fact that I feel like I work with high school kids at a high school. I love my fellow baristas. They’re some of the loveliest people I’ve ever met. But I know I need to leave this job. I still want to work for starbucks. (I really do enjoy the job for the most part and I want to own my own coffee shop someday so the experience is a bonus.) But what I want to know is that if there are any former Tarbucks partners who jumped ship for corporate who can tell me if it’s worth it or not? (Before you remind me, I am aware of the pay difference and benefits…I just can’t take another moment at Starbucks in Target. They have driven me to having suicidal thoughts again and I need out.)

Corporate is the same shit. It’s the company culture.

I switched from a Kroger Starbucks to corporate about 2.5 months ago. Obviously I have only been here a couple months, but I am happy that I made the switch for my mental health. I think it can all depend on the store, I found myself in a very positive store with great SSV’s and a wonderful SM. I find the corporate store to be a lot more organized, it’s definitely a lot busier but the organization makes it a lot easier for my mental health. I am sure it can depend on the store but I am very happy that I made the switch.

I didn’t work for Starbucks in target but I did work at target and I hated it so so much. I work at a corporate Starbucks now and I’m a SSV and I enjoy it. I feel more respected than I did at target lol I think you’d enjoy it! Good luck on your interview!

I can relate so hard to the respect thing. I have some medical conditions I struggle with and my supervisors at target are constantly belittling me and saying I’m just a lazy worker even though I work almost 55 hours a week with no overtime pay. They know I have doctors notes saying i have to have water and my medicine with me at all times and yet I get written up for having them. And my TL is extremely emotionally and verbally abusive…not to mention extremely racist. Im hoping that with luck and a little confidence on my side I’ll be able to get out of target. I love the work I do at my Starbucks. I just wish I would’ve never gone to a licensed store

I didn’t start at a target starbucks but I’ve met plenty of people who have been happy switching to corporate.

If it’s your team and coworkers affecting your mental health, I wouldn’t see anything wrong with switching to corporate or just another target starbucks. I will say though that I have worked at corporate stores that have their own petty drama. I would definitely visit some of the other locations you want to apply to and see if the employees get along with you okay, as well as with their coworkers.
