What's the funniest malapropism or misheard thing you've experienced at work? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by rudebii
For me it was when a green bean on reg misheard a customer that was ordering a "black eye," thinking she heard "I'd like a tall black guy please"

the green bean looks up, skips a beat, then says to the customer "I'll take one too." The customer is standing there utterly confused.

It took me a half-second until I figured it out and just bust out laughing, I couldn't help it. I go over to reg (I was lead and floating) and explain to the greenie that it's a tall coffee with 2 espresso shots and it's called a "black EYE" in some places. The customer then starts laughing too.

I'm sure I heard more funny shit, but I remember that one the most.

My personal fave is the Meghan Dragon Refreshner 😌

I dunno if this is in every store but we had a PM pastry called Heath bars, half the time customers would order “health bars.”

They are anything but healthy 😂

Wait isn’t it a red eye? Or is there a difference in shots between a black eye and a red eye?
rudebii [OP] 18 points 2y ago
Red eye = 1 shot

Black eye = 2 shots
badatlife15 7 points 2y ago
Got it! I think the first time I heard someone order a red eye I was so confused and my shift explained that to me, but I almost never hear black eye so I had forgotten. Thanks!
rudebii [OP] 5 points 2y ago
NP. Since it's not an official starbucks menu item (sekrit menu item! lol) not everyone is going to know what that is the first time a customer orders it.

Like "zebra mocha," though that one you kinda put together, it's more obvious.

Also called, ‘shot in the dark’
rudebii [OP] 2 points 2y ago
I’ve never heard that, but some drinks have regional differences. Someone told me a zebra is also called a “black and white” mocha.

During my time I had a lady come through the DT and ask for a ‘Michael Jackson’ mocha. …Black and white mocha. She meant mocha and white chocolate mocha mixed. 😳💀

rudebii [OP] 2 points 2y ago
Did they mean vanilla? NGL, “vintage latte” sounds like a badass name for a drink.
Foggy-Brain 7 points 2y ago
I said to a customer "*whatever the rest of their order* ...and a caramel frunch crap" luckily they laughed it off but oof
rudebii [OP] 1 points 2y ago

cjmatthews444 2 points 2y ago
I had someone yesterday ask for an iced caramalizer latte with oat meal milk…
