2 months in and getting bullied by SM, SSV and coworker- can I just not go back? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by intothe-blue
I’ve been a barista for 2 months now, and the way I’m treated compared to other baristas, even those that started at the same time as me, is shocking. I try my absolute hardest and I’m a good worker, I’m amazing with customers and go out of my way to be helpful to them and other coworkers. But the internal dynamics of the store is just cliquey and if you’re not a bitch, you’re just not fitting in. I don’t want to change for anyone but I can’t get through a working day without being called slow, blonde or being shouted at for something I don’t know how to do (for context I haven’t been trained right and I’ve been on the bar 4 times, and haven’t even done an open yet, and just get put on the door/till all the time). Another thing is, the SM knows I’m having therapy and I’m going through some personal issues right now too which makes it more annoying and upsetting that they are being so horrible. 4 baristas started at the same time and 2 have left because of the same things.

I just don’t want to go back to such a toxic environment. I have my old bar job which I can go back to whenever and also some other places I’m applying to, and because I’m still a student I feel like I wouldn’t need to even say I’ve worked at Starbucks (to avoid the conversation about not going back and presumably getting fired). I want them to know they can’t treat someone like this, so I would definitely report this to the DM. But I really just don’t want to go back at all. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

You could transfer but you need to be here min 6 months to do that. Do what’s best for you, working in a toxic store doesn’t usually improve.

Thank you for replying, yeah that’s true and I don’t want to have to feel insignificant and stupid in my job considering it’s where I am most of the time!

I totally understand. I’m proud of you for being yourself and not trying to fit in.

Thank you! I really want to be in a positive environment and not have to become toxic too!

Ethics and Compliance Helpline 1-800-611-7792 I had to google it because the partner hub is just refusing to move rn. I got it here $1 Even if you leave, the company should know what kind of SM they have on their hands

If you feel that bad, call partner support or whatever it’s called. They might be able to transfer you out sooner. But if you really don’t feel like dealing with it, not going back is ok too. It doesn’t make you a bad person

I had this same problem, but just with my store manager. I was originally hired by a different store manager, training to be a SSV. Got this new manager and I suppose she didn’t like Asians cause she was absolutely god awful to me.
I transferred and that fixed the issue. I’m sorry you’re experiencing this :(

I’m so sorry you experienced that! That’s awful- you deserve to be somewhere with nice people. Congrats on the transfer!

Thanks everyone for the replies, it’s really nice to have a vent and to have people’s support! 💚
