Me: on my hands and knees begging for a limit to mobile orders while 10 ppl in the lobby that ordered cafe drinks hit me with the “hi I’ve been waiting a really long time for my drink”(i.redd.it)

limiting mobile orders won’t do anything because they’ll just place two separate orders ✨✨
philosopher_cat_lady24 points2y ago
You would have to refuse to make the second order
A_Will_Ferrell_Cat40 points2y ago
People already place separate orders so they get their stars or whatever.
sammieduck694207 points2y ago
stars aren’t based on individual purchases. people used to but now it’s per dollar so they’d rather rush to the next place to inconvenience
sneaky_capybara18 points2y ago
there are challenges that give them bonus stars for making multiple purchases
philosopher_cat_lady1 points2y ago
And I should stop letting them do that because they're cheating at their star game
dthomp080617 points2y ago
Someone mentioned at other places you cannot place back to back orders, the system won't allow it. Like there's 30 minutes in between or something. That would be a good idea.
fortytwounder_120 points2y ago
Corporate is never going to place a limit on mobile orders, they make way too much money off of it.
rannnner74 points2y ago
or at the least have separate printers for mobiles and cafes, i know they’ll never do it but it would make life so much easier :(
zenrchy49 points2y ago
We have a printer for mobiles and one for cafe. Is that not how it is everywhere?
rannnner65 points2y ago
sadly no, mobiles and cafes are sent to the same printer which is a nightmare as you can imagine. we’re also a drive thru store, not sure if it is different for cafes
courtnafer11 points2y ago
you should be able to reroute types of orders to specific printers on the pos or computer
rannnner14 points2y ago
we only have two printers, one for drive thru and another for cafe/mobiles.
zenrchy9 points2y ago
Maybe that’s why. I work at a cafe, but will be helping out a drive thru later this week so I suppose I’ll see what it’s like there.
bryceofswadia8 points2y ago
We have a drive thru printer, a mobile printer, and then a delivery and cafe printer.
throwaway34566784 points2y ago
this would be a dream
EskiClark1 points2y ago
Yup we ate now using what Use to be the delivery printer as our Cafe printer since deliveries are now coming through the mobile printer. That third printer was just sitting there doing nothing.... So Glad we changed it. Now we can empty our lobby So Much Faster!!!!
kortette5 points2y ago
That’s weird. I’m at a drive thru store too and we have three printers, one for mobiles, cafes and DTs. Y’all just getting done dirty.
fortytwounder_3 points2y ago
Our third drink printer prints brewed coffee and teas. Why? I don’t know.
freetofeelfree1 points2y ago
We rerouted our cafe orders to come thru the DT printer and then the DT bar person cups the cafe sticker and hands it to cafe/mobile bar person to prioritize. It works pretty well.
FlippinAsian9 points2y ago
We don’t have a printer for cafe. We write on the cups 🤦🏽♀️
IthacanPenny2 points2y ago
From a customer perspective, that… seems reasonable? Like I’m in the store, you’re in the store, we are talking face to face, why not write as I’m talking? And I don’t mean to be an ass here, I’m legitimately asking. I’m sure there’s something I’m missing, would you mind please explaining why that doesn’t work well? I would appreciate being better educated; im trying to be a less annoying customer.
LoopyBitch12 points2y ago
ok well first of all, i’m gonna go ahead and assume that your usual order isn’t overtly complicated, which would make sense from your perspective considering it’s pretty simple to write a venti vanilla latte with almond milk (something simple) in cup markings. however writing a venti mocha cookie crumble with almond milk and xtra whip, 2 pumps of white mocha, 2 pumps hazelnut, xtra caramel drizzle, xtra cookie crumbles, xtra caramel crunch, 4 scoops of vanilla bean, xtra cinnamon dolce topping, double blended, add a banana, and a sprinkle of pixie dust from satans asshole..... yeah it can become a lot to comprehend in such a short period of time and also write down in a mess of letters that end up looking like demonic symbols. not to mention how hard reading it can end up being for the one making it. so the sticker makes it so much easier to.... exist....as a starbucks barista, if any of that made sense lol😭
aGrapeInUtero8 points2y ago
OMG no, especially not when they get all the customizations and order 5 drinks at once. Starbucks is all about speed, so if I have to write everything on the cups while also worrying about so many other tasks OH my god a centipede just came strolling by as I was typing and he is now dead. Anyway, if you’re on register, chances are that you’re also getting food, and maybe working on customer support (stocking everything in the store from cups and lids to ice to fridges to teas and just everything you could imagine, while also cleaning. Maintenance tasks.) If people order 7 fraps and 4 lattes with 5 customizations each, that’s so much time I’m wasting on writing when I could just let a printer do it and I can take orders more quickly and then get back to my other 15 tasks.
aGrapeInUtero3 points2y ago
Also, you’d have to type it in the system to ring it up. So if you’re writing it on the cup, you’re also gonna have to type it in the system. And drive thru works, and has to work, the same way. Speed, speed, speed. It wouldn’t make sense to have tickets for drive thru and not cafe. Like, you could, but it seems kinda silly.
EskiClark1 points2y ago
Oh dear me
jams10152 points2y ago
We have a cafe/mobile (espresso) printer, a drive thru (espresso) printer, a cold bar printer (they get the fraps from drive as well as the fraps and shaky mobile/cafe drinks), and a warming printer.
snowflakenecklace2 points2y ago
we used to print cafes to one, mobiles to another. we switched a couple months ago so that we have a cold bar printer and a hot bar printer, and it's genuinely so much faster for our bar people to make drinks! it sucks when we get backed up with mobiles, but there's not really anything we can do about that. it's truly the best system, corporate just lets mobiles take over the store.
WorthPrinciple70492 points2y ago
Do you often have three bar people? Do you still have a designated dt printer? Partners at my store we’re SUPER resistant to splitting hot bar/cold bar with only two and including drive. I secretly love when we run tabs and have to split it up, anyway.
We have switched from three separate to just all cafes and mobiles together. It’s nice to not have to try and figure out how to sequence all of that when we’re busy, but not nice for the one cafe person behind 27 mobiles.
snowflakenecklace2 points2y ago
my store is cafe only, so we don't have to worry about drive thru! my guess is we would need a third printer??? i don't know much about drive thru protocol and i really don't want to lol. we'll have three when we have enough staff, but usually not. the third bar person would be helping with whichever is more behind, cold or hot bar.
EskiClark1 points2y ago
We actually Just started doing this!!! Our Cafe orders ate now printing out at a third printer we weren't using. So now when you take a café order your supposed to go to the printer and bring it over to Mobile bar so the Barista can place in between all the mobiles. Only downfall is sometimes people forget so either the DTO person will watch for them because that's where the printer is or the mobile bar person will also watch for them. All in all I'm So Thankful for this solution.
Eandavis1 points2y ago
My store had separate printers, we could configure it however we wanted to. Three printers, so one was for in store, one for food, one for mobile.
keskobalt45 points2y ago
My sm told me that the dm said mobile takes priority and I’m like y’all really want customers to jump over this counter huh
IthacanPenny7 points2y ago
As someone who typically chooses to walk in to the cafe to order, that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. Do you know the logic behind it, and would you mind explaining?
keskobalt6 points2y ago
I think it’s a numbers thing. When we pull a ticket it means we’re making it and it tells delivery and mobile that it’s being made even when it’s not. Plus mobile orders typically order way more. So they want to push the better experience where they on average get more money. Then that makes cafe people want to go to drive through (if there is the option) because it’ll be on average faster because they make us focus on drive times so much and we also often get more items per order in drive thru too.
IthacanPenny5 points2y ago
Bleh that sucks. Thanks for explaining :-)
I usually go cafe because a) the store is on the ground floor of the building live in so it makes more sense to walk than to drive and b) I don’t want my drink sitting waiting for me. I guess I deserve the longer wait times. But for a company so focused on customer service it seems backwards to not try to put on the best face for customers you’re actually face to face with. Sorry for the rant, not your fault at all :-)
keskobalt4 points2y ago
Yea they “say” they’re about customers but we know the truth. But usually baristas will tackle cafe first or do one after the other because even when I heard it it made no sense. I think they’re also giving us more printers so mobile can have it’s own so they don’t block cafe orders which will def help
alexlynn0471 points2y ago
Our bosses also have us focus on mobile orders because of our customer connection scoring system. The surveys only go to people who are rewards members, and everyone ordering on the app is a rewards member. Like someone else said, it’s all about the numbers.
bigasstittiestimes242 points2y ago
I have no problem whatsoever with telling my POS barista to flat out tell customers in line there will be at least a 10, 15, or 20 minute wait for certain items
Also a big fan of telling anybody asking about a drink that has yet to print “oh it’s in queue when it pops up it’ll pop up appreciate your patienceeeeeeeeeeeee”
Like fuck outta here, are the people who were in front of you in line also waiting still? Put 2 and 2 together Dumbass
SelocAvrap17 points2y ago
Ngl there were times that people had insanely big mobile orders & I'd just tell the customers who were waiting "I'm sorry it's going to be a moment, CustomerName's mobile order has 24 more drinks and once those are done my printer will give me your drink"
JeanLucPicardsAss9 points2y ago
Call them out lol
ouchie0714 points2y ago
Yupppp. I handed someone their hot drink once and she says “I’m still waiting on a refresher….” And there’s like 6 cold cups waiting to be made in her view, and i say “yes it’ll just be a little while there’s a line”. She said “I’ve already been waiting a while for this one so” YEAH because it’s a hot day and people are only ordering cold drinks lmao what do u want me to do for you
philosopher_cat_lady27 points2y ago
Travelers have to be called in ahead of time, but apparently you can order twenty-four drinks in a mobile order. Make it make sense.
Peebles4629 points2y ago
We get mobiles for travelers all the time
philosopher_cat_lady1 points2y ago
True. We got one the other day. And it was hard as fuck to make it too. Then get this--we get another mobile order of a traveler. I'm like, "I don't have time for that." But apparently the second traveler was a mistake of some kind, probably on the behalf of the customer. I guess what I meant to say is that customers \*should\* call in travelers ahead of time and when they don't we're well within our right to be like, "Sorry, we didn't have time to make it. Please call in your order for the traveler next time well before you need it. A day ahead would be best."
I_love_stapler7 points2y ago
You can definitely order travelers on mobile.
NothingToSeeFolks6 points2y ago
This pic is of a cafe order, mobile orders are limited to 15 items per order. And all 15 of those items could be travelers.
philosopher_cat_lady1 points2y ago
How do you know it's a cafe order?
NothingToSeeFolks2 points2y ago
Look at the picture. You can see the “ca” from “cafe” at the bottom of the labels.
philosopher_cat_lady1 points2y ago
That makes sense because my shift supervisor was talking about how there is a 15-item limit to mobile orders the other day
3rudite24 points2y ago
Fucccckk Dane
makdaddymami20 points2y ago
We have that happen all the time but we always set them to the side to focus on the customers actually in the lobby.
We have multiple customers that come in to the cafe ordering 20+ drinks. Same thing. Sure we start making them but we also prioritize the other customers who are there. They have 24 drinks. They can wait.
wisteriawaterfall16 points2y ago
dane needs to control himself 😐
GinaMohundro15 points2y ago
There should be a limit of 15 drinks… this is ridiculous. I mean, people still just create another mobile order for more than 15 drinks but still. This is madness.
We have pharmaceutical reps that come in and get massive orders like this too and I’ve had a morning very similar to this about 6 weeks ago. We had his massive order from cafe and then another colleague of his mobile ordered at the same time. Then we had sporadic customers come and order between. I had a very strong drink that day when I got home from work.
crack-wolf9 points2y ago
even fifteen is excessive. my store is the busiest in our district and we regularly get assholes who mobile 7-8 different drinks to try and cut the line in the cafe or the drive. even if we tell them it’ll be a while it still throws everyone off trying to get shit situated
amalia13lightning13 points2y ago
but this was a cafe order?
ChezShea8 points2y ago
Yeah I’m amazed nobody else seems to have caught that.
Unusual_Kick42112 points2y ago
Eff you, Dane.
ZestycloseRate73306 points2y ago
Omg when I get mobile orders larger than 5 I scream on the floor. Once I got a mobile order for 15 cake oops. Then when she came in she wanted me to put them in individual bags. When she realized we don’t have clear plastic bags she hit me with the “oh never mind just leave it how you did it then” after I started putting them in individual bags🙄
hexsan917 points2y ago
My petty ass would be like “Oh okay! Here’s all the ones I already worked on and here’s the rest!” *hands her all the bags* “I’ve got actual work to do, BYE BESTIE!!”
ZestycloseRate73303 points2y ago
I didn’t even give her the rest of the bags. It was apparently fir her kids class. I’m like why don’t you just do the normal mom thing and go to Safeway for the best childhood cupcakes ever?!🙄
MatchingColors6 points2y ago
If there was a max of, say, 10 drinks per mobile, what would stop someone from just placing *multiple* mobile orders?
I agree though, “I can’t help it if someone mobile orders 20 drinks before you” is part of my daily sayings.
Alouria65984 points2y ago
It might not stop it but it might give a small buffer for a cafe or two or three to slip through so they don't have to wait for the whole 20 drinks before we even see their ticket come out.
dthomp08063 points2y ago
I always make them in order they are received. Sucks for cafe customers if there are 15 mobiles before theirs, but that's how starbucks set it up. Sometimes my coworkers pull the stickers looking for a cafe order, but i don't do that cuz then i have stickers everywhere and it wastes time when i could just be making the drinks.
Alouria65982 points2y ago
That's what we do too, sorry if I was unclear. I was more so talking about a hypothetical. What I meant was if say there was a limit imposed on mobile of 10 drinks. That would make the order of 20-30 have to be split up across a couple mobiles. That would mean in that in between of making the additional orders for that mobile some of the cafe orders would end up in the queue between the sections of mobiles.
MatchingColors2 points2y ago
I don’t see Starbucks doing this, but imagine if stores had a TV that displayed all the orders in queue, from all sources. I wonder if/how cafe customers’ view would change
hexsan915 points2y ago
Alternatively, maybe have enough partners working at a time to compartmentalize the different orders that come in from DT/MO/Lobby so it won’t slow down bar.
But wtf do I know? I’m not an asshole overlord sitting behind a desk in an ivory corporate tower. 🙃
bizyguy765 points2y ago
24 drinks on one order seems excessive…. Let’s be practical for a moment…. How are you going to travel with 24 drinks in your car. You’ll have to go like 10mph just to make sure the drinks don’t spill
rszdemon5 points2y ago
Pharm reps are usually the type of people that order massive orders like this, and they’re generally really sleazy salespeople.
That’s why they are pharm reps. Usually the more aggressive ones, that do stuff like get every doctor they plan on selling to starbucks, are for companies that are selling an inferior or overly expensive medication, thus try to sell harder.
It’s like how everyone hates lawyers. Everyone hates big pharma reps too.
We have a nurse that comes in with starbucks gift cards from a pharma rep and only about half of them work. The other half aren’t even activated. Scumbag salesman
bizyguy763 points2y ago
That gives pretty good context to the order….
LazyEggRamen4 points2y ago
So did y’all just not label the cups?
nightman4343 [OP]14 points2y ago
Lol the people that ordered gave us a spread sheet of the names and orders so me and another partner just marked the cups and put the names that’s corresponded to the drink on said cup, and just busted them out that way vs waiting to get to the stickers
Anxious_Database2 points2y ago
I really think I would just refuse if someone came up to me with a spreadsheet. Be like I’m sorry but out of respect for all of our other customers we can’t accommodate an order that large. I don’t even care if I get written up
nightman4343 [OP]10 points2y ago
and sometimes our mobile orders print out of order for some reason so it was just easier that way
mrunexcited3 points2y ago
Relatable. Some dude came in and ordered 32 drinks at my shop this last week- no tip and over half of them had VSC Foam or some variation on top 🙃
Fun-Macaron-90073 points2y ago
Your DM can turn off mobile. I used to be an SM and I’d just make up crazy reasons to need them turned off lol
kxnkycxrly3 points2y ago
I’d be like I’m sorry but coming into the lobby doesn’t mean your drink will be made any faster, I go in order of when I receive the ticket.
dthomp08062 points2y ago
Same. And I'm pretty sure that's how we were trained when mobile launch. Everything gets made in the order received. No matter if you're in the store or not.
sci-fi-lullaby3 points2y ago
Get cafe first babe, I'm really sorry for this, never had a 24 drink order but I'm not gonna prioritize a 4 + mobile order when the person isn't going there, over someone who took the time to come order inside and is looking at me with that stone cold gaze.
JeanLucPicardsAss3 points2y ago
I'm so glad we don't have mobile orders at my store yet, I'm dreading the day... of I was on bar, I would have served everyone in the Cafe first and made whoever thought THAT was okay wait a long fucking time

TurtleeSam2 points2y ago
I don’t see why people complain about these. I love these moments because if they have 20+ drinks, I’m not making them consecutively.. I’m working only one in at a time and making them wait!
RexFlex4202 points2y ago
Who has the nerve to pull this giant of a dick move? Apparently Dane
gaileypoo2 points2y ago
when my mobile gets backed up like this, we ask our SM to turn off mobile until we get caught up. had to do that today since our wait times for mobile were 20+ minutes. have y’all explored that option?? sorry you had to deal with this bullshit 😑
Independent-Peak-6912 points2y ago
I believe that the Messaging of “skip the line” is misleading. You are still in line. When we have two bars one for drive one for cafe if cafe is super busy we pull stickers and make for the ones that walk through the door and give us there name. The others can wait
Cococainee2 points2y ago
I would simply cease to exist
I_love_stapler2 points2y ago
What's the difference between this and all those people ordering individually? Or if the customer walks in and orders? It sucks, but limiting mobile orders wouldn't do anything at all.
nightman4343 [OP]5 points2y ago
The fact that these all have to go out as one unit and required the two of us pretty much being unable to get anything else done while other orders that are their own 1-3 drink units continue to build up. Like at least 6 4 drink orders would at least feel like I’m accomplishing something and getting through the mountain of orders. It just messes up the flow.
I_love_stapler1 points2y ago
>anything else done while other orders that are their own 1-3 drink units continue to build up. Like at least 6 4 drink orders would at least feel like I’m accompli
I get what you are saying, but practically it makes no difference at all. if during 1 hour you get 80 drinks, they still need to be made. the only difference I would have made would be a staggering 1 drink for mobile, 1 drink for cafe, 1 drink for DT. No matter what the customer expects, that order takes 15 minutes minimum. Which most people who order big orders like that already understand.
dthomp08063 points2y ago
I feel like people might have more shame ordering 24 drinks at the register with 10 people waiting in line behind them lol. But maybe not.
I_love_stapler6 points2y ago
I worked at one of the busiest cafes in So Cal for almost 2 years, we would have a line to the door and 2 registers going for peak every morning. Without fail one of the local businesses with +500 employees would almost always send a few workers to order 40+ drinks.

The moral of the story, some people have no shame. And to their credit, they were insanely nice about it. If our DM/SM denied a 45+ order, all of those employees would have just come down and ordered them individually.
dthomp08063 points2y ago
That sucks. Idk why people even want to order so much from Starbucks. Everything will be melted, or lukewarm or cold by the time the last item is made.
philosopher_cat_lady1 points2y ago
These aren't mobile orders. They're LIES
Butterflybo0ty1 points2y ago
That on top of having a drive thru. I’m about to start taking adderal before work 😫
WorthPrinciple70491 points2y ago
I treat those like a big order call in and just sequence with other drinks behind it rather than doing all of them at once.
real-3st1 points2y ago
Once you hit past 4+ I'd consider it a cater and charge extra fees
d_wan41 points2y ago

thechamelioncircuit1 points2y ago
That’s when we beg our head manager to turn off mobiles lmao. Last week we had 50 at one time
EskiClark1 points2y ago
We had Mobiles, Deliveries, And our Cafe all printing through our Mobile Bar printer while our old Delivery printer Sat and did Nothing! Yikes!!! One day in particular was bad when we had probably 20 plus people in Cafe waiting on orders and Most were Cafe. But we couldn't tell till we finally just started pulling tab after tab and decided to concentrate on just Cafe orders to get them happy and out of here. Now our shifts and Manger have made the Delivery printer into our Cafe printer! SO MUCH EASIER!!!!
First-Recognition-451 points2y ago
I don’t work at Starbucks but I do think that mobile orders and drive thru orders should be limited to 5 items max. Seriously. And I think this because everything is done to order and large orders should be done inside. The people who order a thousand things in the drive thru fuck it up for the rest of us. Literally ads 10-15 mins sitting in my car waiting and makes you guys way less efficient.
