submitted by kaitrsmith
i’ve been late 2 sundays in a row, i open every shift i work at 4:30, so while it sucks, i can’t help but miss my alarm sometimes. anyways, my boss asked me if i knew the late policy and like an idiot i said yes, but i don’t. any baristas know what it is?

You get 2-3 warnings then a final warning and then you are terminated. However in my experience it can vary if managers decide to give benefit of doubt or of course if your excuses are valid. What you really need to worry about is your coworkers noticing your lateness. You will end up being used as an example of the imperfect employee they are not when they show up late and that could mean going straight to a final without all those warnings. If what I mean is not clear consider that all of your coworkers will feel the impact of you being late if you do it enough and will complain to the manager to the point you are not worth keeping if it means everyone else complaining. Also everyone is certainly talking shit behind your back once you do it enough.

my manager said something about, “this is technically a 10 minute correction, do you know our policy?” and i said yes like an idiot. i don’t know if he meant 10 months i’m on a warning or what

I’d rather not sleep and be on time and a zombie than be late. 1 or 2 minutes isn’t as big of a deal as 10 or 15 but it’s not a habit to get into. You have to keep in mind that your other partners rely on you to be on time so they can get breaks and go home and get stuff done. Not here to lecture because I’ve definitely slept through my alarm or woken up when I should’ve been in but in those cases I call and tell them. You’ll probably get a warning or write up.

one time i slept through my alarm, the last time i didn’t hear my alarm because i was asleep on my bathroom floor due to an allergic reaction, which i told my manager but doesn’t count as sick time apparently

depends on SM, I have a partner that is always late without a doubt, no biggie it happens all the time . my manager is sometimes late, my whole store a joke, honestly I should be SM LOL

I’ve only missed my alarm once in 3 years of opening so IMO that’s really not a good excuse.

i didn’t want to load on reasons for why i was late, but i’m a tattoo apprentice that works 8 hours every day for free, i serve the 2 days the shop is closed, i’m a student, and also basic human needs that take up time in my day. i am absolutely never home and get maybe 4 to 5 hours of sleep a night. when i was hired, my manager knew this, and i told him i was willing to open a couple days a week. it turned into me being scheduled at 4:30 am every single day, 4 to 5 days a week, for almost 16 shifts in a row. i have been a partner for a few months, and somehow it is my sole responsibility to open, when our morning team has over 10 people. i never said i was making excuses, however, if you’d like one, i have them.

It’s just you opening? We have usually 3 people opening plus sometimes a manager doing stuff in the back. Sounds like you need to edit your availability in the Partner Hours app, your manager should be following that.

it’s usually one other and a supervisor. the other opener is usually one of two partners, so it’s almost always two of us 3
