1) Our work should pay for the money we spend to get there. Includes gas, bus passes, etc. They wouldn’t have us if we didn’t spend that extra money to get to work! 2) Unpaid breaks should be illegal. Seriously. We have to have a break in order to work more efficiently to make the higher ups the most money, and we’re not even getting paid for it. I don’t think it’s too unreasonable to expect the most basic expenses covered. We are just far too used to working our asses off and getting next to nothing in return.

I get the idea but also that’s not up to the employer to give you reliable transportation. In the application process they ask if you have it. Also, I say this as a fellow partner, look for other jobs if you don’t like Starbucks. It’s not their job to pay you for no work.
Sisyphus66 [OP]1 points2y ago
Keep in mind you’re defending a company that exploits you for pitiful wages while they rake in hundreds of millions of dollars. If they wanted to, they could easily pay for these amenities, but they don’t because they know they can get away with it. Plus if everyone who didn’t like Starbucks simply found another job, you’d be stuck by yourself with a massive shortage of labor and rue the day you told someone to just quit. Look at what restaurants are going through right now.

Well to be honest, any company that does pay what you want is also raking in hundreds of millions of dollars. And yet those employees would also say they could do better. Starbucks is just fast food. There look, you get free therapy, college, better work conditions and a progressive workplace. Also no, I won’t rue the day because I’ll have a career and won’t be working in fast food
Sisyphus66 [OP]4 points2y ago
So the people stuck working in fast food can just suffer then
El_Trundo17-7 points2y ago
Waaaaaaaah!
if you can’t afford gas or a bus ticket then you don’t know how to manage money, this isn’t Starbucks’ fault
riilss3 points2y ago
Do you clock out for your ten? I thought we got paid breaks.
Sisyphus66 [OP]3 points2y ago
I was referring to the unpaid lunch breaks.
esaeklsg2 points2y ago
Regardless of whether I believe in this or not, what would likely happen is no one would ever be scheduled long enough to need a lunch break. They already like dodging lunch breaks and second tens when scheduling.

The fact that you guys have ever gotten a whole 6 hour shift instead of a 5.75 is crazy to me
august4012 points2y ago
starbucks helps out with travel stuff like lyft rides before 6am and after 6pm for high crime areas like where i am in downtown seattle
LatteMaster2 points2y ago
1. Rarely any company pays for travel to and from work. It just isn’t the norm. If you travel for Starbucks to get product they pay you for the travel milage.
2. Unpaid breaks and unpaid lunches are two different things. You get paid for your breaks because your state mandates it/or Starbucks has decided to follow the example of states that do so. You do not get paid for your lunch. The reason you do not get paid for your lunch is simple the state does not require it, in fact pretty much no state does. You may even be surprised to know some states do not require a meal period at all. You are not working and are not required to remain on the premisses so it makes no sense to get paid from a business standpoint. Trust me you are not getting a lunch as a method to as you say “work more efficiently” they are solely there because the law says so or other states laws say so and starbucks wants to be standardized.
Sisyphus66 [OP]0 points2y ago
I know why we get breaks. Trust me, I know they wouldn’t give us them if they could get away with it. The question is: why SHOULD it be this way? We’re all conditioned to think this is acceptable, that we should never question how things are run. Radical change is hard to believe at first, but it’s possible. All the reasons you gave about breaks come laws and policies, but it’s not impossible to change those laws and policies because we are the backbone of the company.
LatteMaster2 points2y ago
“We are the backbone” yeah sure but anyone else can also be the backbone within 3-6 months which is why it wont change.
Sisyphus66 [OP]2 points2y ago
So you admit that we’re disposable in the eyes of the company?
variazioni2 points2y ago
i mean, what do you expect from a company this big? it shouldn’t be this way, but it is. i can’t really see a world where a company with millions of employees paying for their travel and lunch breaks.
