Venti rant with an extra shot (self.starbucksbaristas)

So I’m on register during the beginning of my shift and this lady walks up to me. She begins by asking if the Starbucks pride shirts my coworker is wearing means “gay pride.” I say yes and she gives me a nasty look. She then says, “So if I’m a Christian, does that mean I’d be forced to wear that? Because I ain’t with all of that gay stuff.” I reply no, gave a disgusted look, and then took her order. Long story short, don’t give homophobic, bigoted opinions where they’re never needed. Like, no one asked her for anything. All she had to do was stand there and tell me what she wanted. All that lady did was make herself look like a horrible person and made us uncomfortable.

Why are some people that stupid? Why would she have to wear a pride shirt? Also i don’t know if you live in the south or not but I’m constantly getting church cards as tips. I guess I’m too gay and need Jesus.

I saw people claiming that if lifelong, churchgoing Catholic Joe Biden was elected President, Christians would be executed in the streets. A lot of people are just really, really dumb.
rudebii 11 points 2y ago
some people just find an excuse to let you know how "righteous" they are.

I live in the south but I’ve never received a church card as a tip. I think I’d actually laugh out loud, jfc

not too long ago we got a pocket bible as a tip and the entire crew just took a second to laugh our asses off

uno reverse card played, corporation's gay pride is limited to performative actions, not actual, substantive support of LGBTQ partners.

Does that mean I can take my queer self to chick-fil-a? Does she cancel me out? I’d be ok with that, their chicken is goooooooood.
El_Trundo17 4 points 2y ago
Yes it would be canceled out. My Starbucks is next to a Chick-fil-A so I go over too much
TheBlueSuperNova 1 points 2y ago
Not really given how the owner of chick-fil-a directly donates to anti-lgbtq organizations. But sure you go get that decent chicken sandwich.

It looks as though you may have spelled "Chick-fil-A" incorrectly. No worries, it happens to the best of us!

I would have been snarky and said "well, bigots don't usually get past the first interview, so you don't have to worry about it," knowing I'd get a verbal with a "I have to give you a verbal warning over that but..." from my SM and DM.
Adventurous-Path-976 [OP] 4 points 2y ago
I should’ve said a lot of things but I would’ve definitely been written up
rudebii 5 points 2y ago
"bigot" was me avoiding a written lol

but seriously, most of the SMs and DMs I worked for would have looked the other way if we gave a mild clap back at homophobic comments from customers.

the stores in our district wouldn't have functioned with -phobic managers, considering the number of awesome LGBTQ partners we had.
Adventurous-Path-976 [OP] 4 points 2y ago
Same. So many of my partners, including myself, are part of the community. I regret not clapping back.
rudebii 3 points 2y ago
I wouldn’t beat yourself up, you played it by the book, something I wasn’t super great at 😑
ryzzostar 10 points 2y ago
Jokes on her, she doesn't have to work at Starbucks...or get Starbucks coffee...she can go work at Chick-fil-A instead and wear homophobia on her sleeve while serving up the Lord's chicken...

Ahh gotta love that evangelical persecution complex :)
DieLawnUwU 4 points 2y ago
Who’s gonna tell her that Jesus preached to love and treat everyone with respect?
sunflowercupcakee 2 points 2y ago
Did y’all get new pride shirts this year?
Additional_Site_2590 2 points 2y ago
