Mobile Tipping Gone - Confirmed 😡 (i.redd.it)

I posted here about a month ago confused as to why I was no longer seeing any option to tip on my mobile orders. Well, after chatting with the staff at my nearest store who also seemed confused by the lack of tip window/bubble I decided to contact customer support.

Let me get this straight Starbucks - You decided your employees who just worked through a year long pandemic don't deserve tips on mobile orders. In addition to that blatantly evil maneuver, from what I can tell, they did not do much or anything to inform baristas and staff. I certainly wasn't notified as a customer.

How is this not like, blowing up the internet? I feel like this should be a very visible piece of information and Starbucks shouldn't get to quietly decimate staff earning potential.

What do you all think about this? Is there anything more I can do? Sorry if this sounds spicy, I am a tad riled up ❤️

I just placed a mobile order to test it, and was able to add a tip. That's weird.

I've connected with a few folks since this began for me who can still tip, which makes me wonder if it is a regional decision? I've been using the app for a few years now and only in the last few months have I experienced the tipping issue :(

Maybe a update is starting to roll out. Some apps take a few days for every region to have the update. And with this being Starbucks i wouldn’t be surprised if the days turn into weeks

Unfortunately this has not been a few days, I started toying with the mobile tip error *months* ago. I don't work at Starbucks, but I do work in the digital marketing/ux/app sphere, and know how wildly simple the tipping bubble is to maintain/update/not turn off at random :/

This is gonna sound mighty conspiratorial but customer service is infamous for not having a damn clue about what's actually going on. They honestly might just be blowing smoke.

It may be a temporary glitch, it may be an outage, it might actually be getting phased out... but I highly doubt they would actually phase it out considering how hard and fast the world is moving to being all digital. I think the only time I ever have cash in my wallet is when I need to get quarters for laundry.

super quick edit: is your app on the latest update?

I think Humberto is just talking out of his ass. I get push notifications every time I pay for something - you probably need to check your settings on the app. You should also be able to into order history within the first couple of hours and add a tip as well.

They just converted our payroll system to automatically calculate and distribute mobile tips through our paycheck. It would have taken. LOADS of programming to do that. No way they would do that and then turn around and remove the function.

Are you in the US?

A customer was in the process of mobile tipping today when she asked if we actually get it. She was able to do it

I'm thinking this has to be regional. I have a Google Pixel phone and have had my IPhone user roomate test this theory...she couldn't tip either.

Idc if it's regional or just one store, it's blatantly unethical. Carrying cash isn't as baseline of a behavior as it once was.

Thankfully from what I can see, the tipping option is still there. Unfortunately, it isn't in an intuitive area and if you have turned off push notifications you will not receive anything advising you about it.

After your purchase through the app, go to your homescreen and look in the upper right corner. The far right icon will be your profile the next will be your receipts which is where you can select your tip amount. I think you can add a tip in this area for up to 2 hours after you order. You are also limited on how much you can tip.
