is it possible to transfer before 6 months?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by ilovejimin
after a year of being in a pandemic i decided to find a job because i really needed the income and i ended up getting hired at a starbucks! it took a while for me to actually get started because of timing of the store so i didn’t start until april which was later than i had hoped.
the thing is i’m planning on moving to a new city (5 hours away) in august and i’m wondering if i should try to transfer or if it’s even possible! i honestly never imagined myself as a barista but i think i’m getting the hang of the job and i feel like i’d be a good partner if i could find a store with no drive thru. i don’t really want all this training to go to waste either, but is 4~ months too early to ask for a transfer? i feel bad about taking the job when i knew i wanted to move this year but i applied to a bunch of jobs and this was the only place who actually hired me 😭 so i didn’t want to lose the opportunity.
do any partners have advice or experience transferring soon after getting hired?! ive read a few posts but a lot were a few years old or seemed like transfers in the same district so i wanted to get advice about this specific situation!

I was able to. Just talk to your SM. They have most of the day in it and can advocate on your behalf.

thank u for ur response!! also would a month be enough of a heads up to talk to my/ the other SM?

You may need a little more time than that. Mine took just over a month to go through, which, again depends mostly on the SMs.

Yep I transferred to a new home store when I went to college after only working for a month or so. I'm now back at first store for just a couple months before a transfer to college store again. Starbucks, at least where I'm from, is super chill about that kind of thing.

I am so grateful that you asked this question because this is my exact situation too, and it is stressing me out. I started first week of May and will be leaving in late August/early September—I thought I was going to have to quit and try to get rehired in my new city, the fact that it looks possible to actually transfer brings me so much relief!

I was able to transfer before 6 months, so it is possible..you just need your current SM and the new SM to agree
