Barista trainer questions!! (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by iStealSharpies
What should I expect for a role as barista trainer. Will I be trained for this? My training when I was a green bean was over 3 years ago so I don’t remember everything in the training exactly. What should I expect? HELP! Lol

You're assigned... ~3-5? training shifts with the newbie and then you sort of guide them from there. You're responsible for that person's development for however long, but you get no pay raise; just a bonus $75 per trainee. That comes out to be one 8 hour shift's worth of pay if you make $9/hr.

You're pretty much free to build your own "curriculum" as well, but there is modules on the Hub that show you what to teach and how to structure it. You do the modules, take a test, and if you pass, you're certified, from what I remember. You should get lots of 1-on-1 time with your SM a lot to discuss what to do, how it's going, etc. and they'll meet with you to sort of train you on it.

Thank you for the details! Are the modules/ tests hard for the certification hard? I’m pretty comfortable and confident when it comes to Starbucks standards. I just feel like I suck at explaining things to people 😂

You should be scheduled for a little training by your SM for this. I just trained my first green bean and used the modules on the iPad. Super efficient.

Did you feel lost in the process? Also before training the green bean, did you get to see the modules prior? I’m kinda nervous 🥺😬

I personally wasn’t nervous, but I use to train bartenders. You can look at the modules before hand. On the iPad go to Store Resources and the Train A Barista. They are all there.
