We got slammed today while understaffed because of another store nearby closing. I basically had to solo bar with a cafe full of people along with hella mobiles and a drive thru that didn’t stop. I had my shift helping me but oh my god it was so stressful.
Today was the day my DM was meeting with my manager so I was keeping things clean and up to spec, trying my best to greet every single customer that came in while making drinks and listening to drive thru. Tell me why I thought I was doing a good job under the circumstances and felt good about it UNTIL my manager pulls me aside and says I need to put in more effort for customer connections.
Like I did all I could with a headset on and with drinks lined up down the counter!!!!!! Maybe I missed greeting a customer or two because I didn’t hear the door but like ???? It was obviously busy ??
I don’t know. I’m just tired of doing the most when no one notices. After my manager said that to me I literally didn’t want to go back to the floor because what’s the point ?

No one ever notices efforts at Starbucks. It’s always, “get your otw time down, greet more, try to do more bevs at once” literally I feel your pain. It’s so disheartening

At that moment, I would tell him to step back and look at the bigger picture. We are swamped and chronically understaffed. But hey, if I suck at my job, I shouldn't be on the floor. Here ya go. Hand off head set, clock out, walk out. You don't get paid enough for that level of bullshit.

you see as a shift at starbucks i really appreciate the effort you put in, but i understand most store managers well it goes over their head super quickly, its never "you're doing great!" Its always "This needs to be fixed, or could be better." but i would just put it behind you and be proud of yourself for kicking some serious ass and not letting the store burn down!
