so today was officially my first ‘non training shift’ and about 5 days in. it was also the first time i was closing too. i had gone over customer support briefly but i didnt realize how confusing everything was until today when my ssv started giving me tasks to do.

i felt really annoying and like a burden asking so many questions and being so slow and confused tbh. im getting the hang out of it now and some of my coworkers told me im doing well for someone’s first actual day but i honestly just feel in the way….

i was also put on drive thru order and window by myself for the first time and was super stressed out. most of the customers were nice but ssv was rushing me a bit and i felt really overwhelmed super quickly. especially since im not super used to the register and the orders got super complicated… it was a shock i didnt cry on the spot

idk im now ridden with anxiety because i have to do another shift at a new store and im worried about annoying everyone there. i just hope they’re patient with me but i can already tell its a gonna be a nerve wrecking seven hours

Ssv and barista trainer here. Seriously can’t beat yourself up. You’re expected to learn a lot of information in a very short time. It’s gonna be awhile before you feel like you actually know what you’re doing. I always tell my green beans that you’ll have this ‘a-ha moment’ where everything suddenly makes sense. Until then there’s a lot of uncertainty and hand holding. It’s more concerning if you don’t ask questions and then have to take time to correct mistakes that could have been avoided. Everyone has to go through the rough patch of being a green bean. I don’t see why your ssv would put you on dto with such little experience. I think it would be best if you communicate with your ssv what you feel most comfortable with and ask for guidance as needed. Customer support can definitely be confusing but definitely the best spot for newbies. It allows you to get a birds eye view of the store and learn all the positions. Cut yourself some slack. It gets better. (:

noo i bet you did great!!!! it was barely your first day as not being trained, i know some baristas who still need a bit of help and theyve been working for a while, me as well (ive been in my sbux for 2 months, but in a license sbux for 5 months ). i definitely get the feeling of being in the way, but trust me, i feel a lot better when new baristas ask questions than staying quiet.
the register is different from my license store, so it took me a while to get the hang of it, and im sorry u had to do solo drive without still getting the hang of the register , but it'll get better!

Hiiiiii! I’ve been with Starbucks for two weeks now, going on three. So a fellow green bean. Trust me when I say in the next few days you are going to absolutely kill the game.
