Sick and pto (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by LatterRooster
Quick question: If I quit today and have pto and sick saved will it just disappear or should I cash in before I quit?

Vacation gets paid out. Sick time doesn’t. You would have to call off and write PTO in the book to get paid and then I’m thinking if you did that and then quit your manager may not pay you for it. I mean, its one thing if you’re legitimately sick and then something comes up and you have to quit but another if you transparently call off sick just to burn your time and then quit.

I mean I’ve had to call out because my son keeps getting sick and we have to go to specialists thy only have open appointments in the morning. So it is legit
Edit/ I’m thinking I should quit because of the above mentioned issues and they refused to give me certain days off so I could only schedule his appointments for those days I had off. This is a almost biweekly thing where I have to say sorry I can’t do that day or the next week it might Work just fine. And no one can ever cover me.

I gotcha. That’s a little different.

Have you worked there at least a year? If so you would qualify for FMLA and they would have to work with you to get appts and stuff covered if he has a “serious” condition. If he’s seeing specialists it’s probably serious enough.

It might be worth calling Partner Resources. Legally they have to give you FMLA if you’ve worked there at least a year and at least 1250 hours. It would protect your job and allow you to take time off to deal with whatever your son has going on. That is, assuming you want to keep your job.

Otherwise I would probably try to burn through your sick time before you quit so you can collect it.

ETA: this applies to the US. Other countries would probably have better leave benefits.
