The first days are really fun! You will be doing a lot of training modules. You will get you free drinks and food. Meeting everyone and learning some ropes. Every trainer does things differently. Mine started with CS but many start with drive or POS. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and ask for help. It’s definitely a fun experience!

Don’t be afraid to cry in the staff bathroom if you need to. Feeling overwhelmed/ in the way is normal when your not sure what you should be doing. Don’t be afraid to ask for help even if you need to ask the same question a million times to understand the answer. Be patient and understanding with yourself. There’s a lot to learn when your a barista that happens over time. Don’t rush, try to study drinks and procedures a little in your free time. Quizlet has a ton of useful stuff. Be kind to yourself and others and have fun. Also when you start learning drinks make sure to taste every drink you make for the first time. Its a whole experience in itself promise

Update: hey y’all. Thank you very much for the wonderful advice! First training shift went really well & I learned a lot from working at the register and working next to the oven. My trainer was very sweet and helpful & my co-workers are very nice. There was a rude customer but it’s bound to happen sometime. Thank you again for the tips ! ♥️

I’m going to tell you the thing that I was told here when I was training: do NOT bring work home with you. You are being trained, and you and your trainer are both being paid for your training, and with the exception of memorizing the sizes and their numbers, there is no reason for you to put in time off the clock.
Next—and this was the one that was hardest for me to believe—you are going to get it all, I promise. There is going to be a point in a couple months where you suddenly realize you’re a part of the team, and you just have to be patient. It will happen, I promise.
And lastly…. It’s literally just coffee. Just brown bean water. There are going to be customers who act like the entire world has fallen off its axis, but its just coffee. Don’t take anything a customer says to you personally, they’re just being entitled and tbh you’re better off than them if a coffee mixup ruins their day.
Good luck!! Remember to keep a positive attitude—my second week was total trash, but after a while I got it, and now I’m happy and it’s fun and busy!

You will be taught to perform tasks one way by someone then get berated for doing it the “wrong” way by someone else. This will happen… a lot. Try not to take it personal.
Sometimes, instead of being taught how to deal with a situation you will be pushed to the side and they’ll look annoyed as if it were your fault no one wants to teach you how to do something. Be patient, don’t take it personal.
ASK QUESTIONS! A lot of these baristas fail to relay information to you that they deem ‘common sense’. So if you’re not sure about something, don’t be afraid to ask.
Overall, the job is fun and always busy! At the end of the day, don’t actually care if you f*ck up, it’s just coffee, it’s not that serious. Sometimes coworkers can be rude and dramatic, that’s their prerogative — to reiterate, don’t take it personal.

Keep asking questions and don’t feel bad for taking a little longer to do things than others might. Partners are still forgetting things or asking questions years after they start so don’t worry.
