I'm really tired of covering people's shifts, but when I need coverage suddenly no one is available. I've taken shifts on my day off, I've worked 10 hours straight for someone, I just feel like I'm being used at this point. At what point do I just stop covering shifts?

now. i did the same thing. i don’t cover anyone’s shift unless they pay me extra

Maybe I should do that. I did once and they never paid me. 😡

Now. If someone asks you just tell them you can’t. You’re not required to give excuses or reasons. Just tell them no. Perhaps if they get to work shorthanded more often they’ll be more willing to help out with coverage.

I only cover shifts for certain people because I know that they would help me out if I needed it. Going in on my day off I don’t do, I’m there way too much 😩 (unless my SM bribes me by giving me the next day off haha)

Stop now. I didn’t even make it out of training before people started texting me asking if I could cover their shifts. And as a general rule from former jobs, I never say yes unless I KNOW they would say yes to me or if I want/need the hours.
So usually I don’t unless I work at the same place as a bestie.

The only time I cover shifts now is if I know I'll be working with bomb ass people and it'll be a chill ass day (which is seldom since I hate working with 95% of the people in my store aha 🙃)

I started out like that too. Super frustrating to help out and no one could cover when I needed something... I started saying no. And if I needed hours I'd ask someone for a shift instead of picking up. Another trick is to tell them you will pick up the shift if they take one of yours, sign the switch a d deal is done. If they don't show for your shift its not your problem..

I’ve got a short list of people I’ll cover shifts for and that’s ONLY bc they rarely ask and they’ll return the favor. Otherwise it’s “sorry, I can’t that day! Good luck!!”
stick to it and eventually they’ll stop asking as much. AND DONT FEEL BAD ABOUT SAYING NO, IT IS NOT YOUR PROBLEM SO DONT TAKE IT ON
