And don’t forget to take a shit on company time
ObnoxiousR 58 points 2y ago
I mean with all the coffee, shits on company time are inevitable.
Bryancreates 19 points 2y ago
As much as I agree with this statement, I NEVER sat on our toilets without restroom cleaning the fuck out of the whole thing first. I’ll pee and check my phone sure, but have you SEEN the people who decided to shit on the wall, or I’m the soap dispenser (the old ones with the metal flap top, unfortunately a true story that got us new dispensers). But I agree with all this sentiment otherwise and anyone else brave enough to sit on public seating. I might just be a freak though.

I’ll be arriving early and staying late anyway, because our shift-who-shouldn’t-have-been-a-shift is closing tonight and it’s always a sh#t show opening after him 😑
ObnoxiousR 19 points 2y ago
I feel you, im a barista, and I ve seen shiftleads have breakdowns due to the working conditions and the general state of the floor, I do my best to clean after bar since im basically thrown on bar and im shelled with Frappuccinos along 2 other poor souls. I hope it gets better bud
Konannos 9 points 2y ago
You have 2 other people on bar with you? Lucky you man XD
cringeqween13 5 points 2y ago
We have 2 shift positions opening at my store and as much as I want to grow and be a shift I want to be the best barista I can be before even attempting to apply as a shift. (I feel like in a company like this, outside hires for upper positions are the worst)
potatopoisoning 9 points 2y ago
The fact that you WANT to be better before seeking promotion already puts you miles ahead. I’ve seen too many people take it just because they could and turn out to be awful because they think they don’t have to do anything now that they’re a shift.
sp_c_g_d 4 points 2y ago
Yet outside hires for upper positions are so unfortunately common, at least in my district. Have seen countless outside hire store managers come and go since I began a few years ago. For a company that prides itself on hiring/promoting from within - I sure barely saw it.
cringeqween13 4 points 2y ago
I am so glad my SM started out as a barista. With all the staffing issues we've had she's on the floor working with us more often than you would imagine.
sp_c_g_d 3 points 2y ago
That's what I LOVE to hear. Logically, you'd want someone for that position who has had the perspective of a barista and shift - you understand SO much more about the innerworkings of the store. On the other end, maybe they know how uninterested in becoming a store manager many of us become after watching the madness.
TrueCrime101 1 points 2y ago
If they aren’t hiring from within, it’s because there was no one worth promoting.

Do you really think they *want* to train shifts who don’t have barista experience? It’s a nightmare. But with so many people upvoting comments like “the siren doesn’t care about you” it’s no surprise to me that they’d find outside hires who aren’t tainted by that negativity.

On top of that, *so many* baristas have very little job experience outside of Starbucks. Most are pretty young (especially because the pay doesn’t really attract people who’ve been in the job market for a while). Finding someone with management experience elsewhere is a definite plus, because you’re not getting that experience making lattes all day.

we get time and a half tomorrow ? i didn’t know
hecaete47 57 points 2y ago
Since last year, Starbucks made Juneteenth a company-recognized holiday for time and a half pay. Now, it is officially a federal holiday.
idk-what-user-2pick 40 points 2y ago
On clean play night in my store so we're scheduled an extra two hours. We were planning on taking our time tomorrow.
SnooDonuts3398 29 points 2y ago
Take an extra smoke break too. Fuck em.
_dreamsofthedead_ 10 points 2y ago
Already doing that but I guess one more wouldn't hurt haha
FfierceLaw 16 points 2y ago
I'm so pissed I'm not scheduled

Stop by for a drink & if it's busy you may get pulled in.
gemlikbase 2 points 2y ago
Just when I thought I was out… they pull me back in
LaurdAlmighty 11 points 2y ago
Please ALSO be respectful of black coworkers this is our holiday to celebrate not only the emancipation of Texas slaves two years after slavery was abolished it’s also a general celebration of emancipation for black people. This is not a random ass holiday.
TylerJ716 10 points 2y ago
I've got an 8 hour shift tomorrow so I intend to clock in 5 minutes early and try to clock out late as well. Worked out for me last Saturday
DirigibleUme 6 points 2y ago
Are we sure they're not gonna drag their feet and say it's too short notice but they'll do it next year?
hecaete47 30 points 2y ago
They did it last year; Starbucks recognized Juneteenth as a company holiday before they made it federal.
Kyde_Drakes 4 points 2y ago
I feel like absolute crap today. Had one girl refuse to finish her two weeks and one kid called out.

It’s sad when I’d rather work feeling like death just for holiday pay then stay home and rest, but dang it I’m going to make them send me home before I leave this store today!
Weekly-Management370 3 points 2y ago
Wait do we get paid time and a half for every a federal holiday? 🧐
LeiyoZynne 3 points 2y ago
Good thing I do that anyway as a shift who is told we will get more shifts as we don't get more shifts 😅
moon_light523 2 points 2y ago
Clocked on early, meal broke, AND stayed late lmao
madamesoybean 2 points 2y ago
Well that's not cool if you were out the door! You're aren't obligated to stay but I know the pressure is there. :(

is father’s day a paid holiday in the US? i know it’s not in canada.
AceyFluff 16 points 2y ago
Juneteenth (June 19th) is now a federal holiday in the US lol, Father’s Day is the day after (June 20th).
violetskies7 11 points 2y ago
oh god i’m sorry lol. i don’t even know what day it is anymore apparently
rudebii 6 points 2y ago
It literally just got signed into law, in a foreign country, so it’s not like you’d be expected to know any of this, American exceptionalism notwithstanding.

that is cool! id love to have an indigenous national holiday here in canada
madamesoybean 2 points 2y ago
We'd love to have one in the states! And for Leonard Peltier to be freed too.
LaurdAlmighty 0 points 2y ago
That’s not what Juneteenth is about, it’s about the emancipation of Texas slaves two years after slavery was abolished because the slave masters lied to them. This is a black holiday
cryingoverspiltmiIk 5 points 2y ago
The only recognized company holidays are New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

There may be other federal holidays, but those are the only ones recognized by Starbucks and the only ones you’ll get time and a half for working.

? It was going to count for us not matter what, Seattle made the announcement last year that we recognized Juneteenth as a time and half holiday.
cuseisalive -11 points 2y ago
They take advantage of us? They forced you to apply and your court ordered to attend? It sucks that you hate your store and the brand you work for. I know my store is doing a potluck lunch, everyone is dressing in theme and life just isn’t this tragic event lol. If you don’t like the job then leave, literally everyone is looking for workers. I’m not saying that to be mean, but it sucks for the ones who WANT to be there to work with people who feel they are being taken advantage of by having to do a busy job. This isn’t for everyone, but from my experience this is drastically better than what many have actually had to do to make a living and it is insulting to constantly imply otherwise just because it isn’t for you

Sincere apologies if you took this as a personal attack. Honestly if this isn’t for you now is a great time to look for other work. I’m not looking to gas this up any more but for real, take care of your mental health and know when it’s time to pass the apron to those who may actually super need some of the benefits or strange hours able to work around. Suck to hear anyone feeling this way about anywhere they work, not trying to be some corporate boot licker I’d give this advice to anyone regardless. Sorry I ever commented let me know if you want me to delete everything. I’m not sweating the hate cause I know my intentions weren’t malicious.

Glad it is recognized at your location! If you aren’t a federal employee though, you aren’t automatically granted the day off/holiday pay
