Is being a shift worth it? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by throwaway3456678
One of the people I was hired with became a shift about 2 months ago. As I was leaving today (we’ll stop and talk since we don’t see each other often) he told me our other SSVs were discussing how they thought I’d be a good shift. And I don’t really disagree, I’ve been thinking of applying for it lately, but that would mean giving up only mornings to close often which I don’t want to do. It’s a big responsibility to take on and I don’t know if it’s worth it

If you plan to stay long term it is, but otherwise no. I’ve been with the company 15 years and a SSV for almost 8 of them and with pay increases over time it’s become worth it, but I also like the location I’m at and the customers I serve and getting to have better control of the day for myself and my team.

The job itself is okay, maybe even less stressful than being a barista, but the SM and SSV team really make or break the experience.
