The people that come through the drive thru inspire me to not drink Starbucks drinks(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by justkeepswimmingswim
I’m not trying to be rude, but it’s very evident a lot of them are not in the best of health. So many venti Frappuccinos, daily for some customers. Today: 7 pumps of classic, 5 pumps of raspberry, and 5 sugar packets in one drink 😳 I’m honestly surprised diabetes isn’t more of an issue.
They’re also inspiring me to get back into shape and live a healthier lifestyle. In addition, they’re inspiring me to find another job.
I’m a Green Bean and hardly ever on bar (that’s a whole different issue) and constantly put on DT. It is draining me. I can barely understand most of them (do people understand how speaker boxes work, like at all)? Why do they insist on ordering from the passenger side? Or with their window mostly rolled up? Or with their hands in front of their mouths? Or in any direction besides towards the speaker box? Or any combinations of any of these? Don’t even get me started on adding to the order at the window when we’re 25 cars deep and then within one second of pulling up, “hello?!?!?!!!” My favorite “welcome to Starbucks, I’ll be with you in one moment.” “Yes, I’ll take a venti caramel Frappuccino.” Or rattling off a ridiculously modified drink and getting mad about repeating it. Modify all you want but have some patience man. And they have no idea what the hell they’re ordering. Why do people insist on ordering 7 Frappuccinos in the DT? Just go in ffs.
Staring at me wondering why I didn’t read their mind that they are using Apple Pay while I wait for their form of payment, saying nothing and basically throwing money or holding their cards out with the most entitled attitudes and then snatching drinks out of my hand. Not being close enough to the window and then barely holding their hand out while I’m half out the window(vertically challenged person here, my little arms only go so far). Demanding things. “Yeah give me a large strawberry refreshner.” Arguing/ bitching when we’re out of certain things. “Well what *do* you have?” Oh I don’t know, maybe COFFEE you pants licker.
I’m also in a heavily Spanish- speaking area, which is fine since enough of my coworkers speak Spanish and I can get by if need be, but it’s already difficult to understand some of them and when they’re not speaking from the driver’s side into the speaker box it’s a struggle man. My own personal hell would be an eternity of working a drive thru.
This was meant to be short but DT really gets me goin. God bless the DT baristas, pretty sure it’s an automatic ticket to heaven. 🙏🏼

Honestly I was so done with customers this week. You nailed it with everything you said. After 5 days in a row. It's honestly annoying having to be soo nice to sooo many people. Especially when most of them act like we are robots. It's annoying to hear grown-ups whine that we are out of stuff. At this point when I say I'll be right with u and they just start ordering I straight up just let them talk to the air . Like how u gonna order without hearing what the order taker said. It's crazy how many people are soo extra with there drinks.
LeftSleeveRolled4 points2y ago
Same. With a "Thank you for waiting" as soon as they finish.
QuizicallyWokeGinger3 points2y ago
Oh I’m soooo doing this! Why I never have before boggles my mind.
codysuxx15 points2y ago
Totally agree. It amazes me how some people come to my store and spend at least $25 a DAY on nothing but sugary crap. I’m also getting so sick of hearing people order the iced white mocha with extra caramel drizzle and sweet cold foam, like it actually tastes good or if they’re just telling themselves it does because it’s starbucks. That drink contains like over half a weeks worth of sugar. It’s literally disgusting. Grown ass adults eat and drink like their 6 year olds in a candy store.

I was just talking to my coworkers about how many calories are in certain starbucks products. The cake pops are like 120-170! I used to love the WCM (before working at Starbucks, now I’ll only drink espresso with cinnamon powder or black coffee- occasionally coffee with steamed milk) until I realized it’s literally half of our daily calories.
I’ve never tried it with the caramel drizzle and foam but I’m with you, I don’t even want to now because it’s so over done. And it’s probably more so just “the thing” to do at Starbucks for the moment. Starbucks customers are so annoying, man.
kitkatZT5 points2y ago
“Which one of these drinks has less calories?” Idk man, it’s on the menu in front of your face tho.

I’m honestly one rude customer away from losing my job these days. Idk if I can hold my tongue next time some 40 year old toddler tries to argue with me
justkeepswimmingswim [OP]7 points2y ago
Bro I feel you! I had some chick get on my ass about how we’ve been out of lemonade for a while and other Starbucks have it. I read an article that explained that restaurants and such are having a hard time getting everything because of how quickly everything opened up. Suppliers weren’t prepared for the demand so right now it’s you get what you get. I let that same chick know why and all of a sudden she wasn’t as bitchy.
I got into an argument with a customer about not having classic in a drink that doesn’t have classic in there. I was damn near yelling at another customer about a tik tok drink (they don’t understand that those aren’t menu drinks and if we don’t know what’s in it then we can’t make the drink because it essentially doesn’t exist). Like if you’re gonna be that extra and then complain it’s not correct because you’re in the DRIVE THRU just walk your ass inside. Most of them can use the steps anyway.

I almost threw hands with a customer today (on break currently). She had the audacity to cuss at the barista who took her order. I almost refused to make the drink, but he told me not to worry about it and just go ahead and make it. I went ahead and told the manager (of the grocery store, we’re a licensed sbux and our sbux manager quit today) that next time that happens I’m not making the drink. People are fucking crazy to think that they can treat us like shit and still demand the service we supply
QuizicallyWokeGinger6 points2y ago
Yeah, you work at my store for sure, right? Lol! I wish I could tell you it gets better. It gets less shitty sometimes, if that helps? I would like to say two things…that may not have been mentioned: 1. Fuck Tiktok diabetes drinks and NO I don’t know what the hell they are and no I will not scroll through your tiktok on your phone trying to find this out for you. Be prepared or have a back up. Like iced chai or a rtd beverage? Lol 2. Barista: “what size was that?” Customer: “ugh!!! I don’t knowwwww the regular size!!! I don’t know the names of your sizes!”*comes to window* I’ll be using my 2k+ stars for my order. SMH.
justkeepswimmingswim [OP]3 points2y ago
You know, the size one confuses me. Because people will know EXACTLY what they’re doing when they’re ordering but then say “…large.” And I feel like they’re just doing it on purpose to irritate us and it’s this sort of mentality that I don’t understand. I can tell when someone genuinely doesn’t know the names of the sizes but man, don’t be a dick just to be a dick. As you said, if you have 2k stars and act like that then you’re just being obnoxious for literally no reason to people who are just trying to get through their day.
QuizicallyWokeGinger2 points2y ago
We have to interact with them for what? 2-5 min max? They have live with themselves 24/7 no escape.
justkeepswimmingswim [OP]1 points2y ago
You’re right and I tell myself the same thing pretty often. There’s usually something wrong with these people, whether it be mentally (not even trying to be funny or hate, but it’s true in some cases), they’re going through a tough time, or they’re just not happy with their lives and themselves and never will be.
They’re only in my life for a very limited time and after that I shouldn’t let them have any affect on me.
As far as the size thing, I mean yeah in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t really matter what they’re calling the sizes. I just think the principle behind purposely ordering in non-Starbucks language is kind of a dick move because it’s the intentions behind it. But, again, should I let something this insignificant affect my life? Helllllllll no! Who cares what they call it, just give them their drinks and make them go away 😂
QuizicallyWokeGinger2 points2y ago
True…but to me, I don’t care if they call it HEWGE BIGGIE, SUPERDUPER size. I know what they mean (95% of the time anyway). I mean, I get it I don’t go to a store and ask the employee ummmm… do you have this shirt in a venti? Lol Damn customers, we didn’t make up the sizing names. And the whole schtick about TALL being SMALL etc is tired and soooo hackey 1997 standup comedian. No one thinks your funny and the fake laughs are grinding on my brain.
HA HA HA. Good one…
ouchie076 points2y ago
Some dude flashed his watch at me for payment so I ASSUMED Apple Pay, but it turned out to be a gift card (i didn’t even know this was a thing lol!). Or when people don’t even answer you when you ask how they’re paying and you just have to make your best guess
justkeepswimmingswim [OP]6 points2y ago
Woaahhhh! Now that’s a new one! I didn’t know that was a thing either lol! So many times I’ve gone to scan their phones and they stare at me and I’m like “…is it Apple Pay?” And they’ll nod their heads and I’m like “..okeyyyyy…” I used to teach preschool so I’m so tempted to tell them to use their words lol
ouchie072 points2y ago
LOL exactly!
jklmnopedy3 points2y ago
If I wasn't so confident that the number of customers who are rude and mispronounce easy product names make up the bulk of Starbucks customers, I'd say we must work at the same store lol
justkeepswimmingswim [OP]2 points2y ago
“Refreshner” gets me every time lmao! One of my friends that’s a shift in Seattle said she has customers say they want the “IKEA refreshner” and I fuckin dieeeed.
I suppose it’s across the board and man, that just tears me up because none of y’all deserve this kind of treatment either. :(
jklmnopedy1 points2y ago
SAME 😄. And the things I've heard for 'acai'. Pre-masks and I can't believe I kept a straight face. And thanks, none of us deserve this treatment. Hopefully, we're all able to make the most of the benefits and use them as a stepping stone to get the hell out 🙌!
justkeepswimmingswim [OP]1 points2y ago
I’ve thought about the type of problems I might have when we don’t have to wear masks anymore. Which is another thing! We have to but customers don’t? And then they come in looking for a medicine ball saying their throat hurts 😑
Totally with you, I don’t know what the heck happens to people that they feel they can treat people however they want. Idk man, even if I had all the money I could ever want I cannot justify treating a human being like that for any reason. I mean my life is pretty much a shitstorm anyway and has been for some time now so I just sigh and try and brush these people off. I had a particularly rough day a few days ago (work and non-work related) and my boyfriend was waiting for me at my apartment. The poor guy, I came home and basically got stoned and went to sleep and barely said anything to him. He was like “…are you going to sleep?” And I said yup and that was it. Some days just go to shit so badly all I can do is go to sleep and pretend I won’t have to wake up and keep doing this 🥲
Agreeable_Tea33443 points2y ago
Same, same, same! All these and more daily on DT. I am one more eye roll away from finding another job. After 9 years of customer service retail total - maybe its time.
justkeepswimmingswim [OP]3 points2y ago
I feel you. This isn’t anything new, I worked retail jobs throughout high school and college and then taught. Then I worked at Amazon. Basically, I’m just exhausted from people and my opinion of most human beings is pretty low after spending so much time in these jobs. It pisses me off because both Amazon and Starbucks have pathetic wages and the amount of shit we deal with is just not ok. I’m exhausted all the time (I also have fibromyalgia and I’m on my own- financially and for life maintenance) and don’t have time for anything and still not making nearly enough to survive. If I was making $35/ hr then I’d let them yell at me all the want. But making minimum wage just to hear someone complain that their shitty drink already tastes like shit isn’t what I want to be doing. If I can help it I won’t be here that much longer.
i_am_me472 points2y ago
agreed 100%!! i’m a green bean too and was put on drive through for the first time last week. some guy got pissed off at me because i asked if he wanted to use his points on his drink or his bakery item
justkeepswimmingswim [OP]1 points2y ago
L O L some guy got mad at me because I got snippy with him because I couldn’t fucking understand anything he was saying and when he got to the window, after he paid, he asked if some of the cake pops are more expensive than others. I told him the unicorn cake pop was 25 cents extra and he wanted to change it out for chocolate. I told him we couldn’t take it back but I could ring him out for a chocolate cake pop. He got mad, kept cutting me off and demanding I just give him his drinks.
Low key I flick people off and pretend I’m cracking my knuckle if they piss me off enough 🤷🏻♀️
