Is working at a starbucks 45min away as a student possible? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by i_am_me47
I just started as a new barista last week but unfortunately I’m moving to college in about 2.5 months. As I start to plan ahead, I’m trying to see if transferring stores is possible.

However, there’s no starbucks where I’m going to college and the nearest one is 42 minutes away. Would working (as a student) at a starbucks that far away from my campus be possible (I’m guessing if yes, most of my hours would have to come from weekend days??)

Yeah, it’s definitely possible. I worked with someone before who commuted 2 hours for work. As for the work-school balance, depending on your major, it could get tough (but still doable). I am currently an engineering major, and have maintained my job at starbucks through all of college, while also working another job throughout each semester. I was told one off campus job is impossible to do… so from my perspective, anything is doable if you work at it

I work at a store 30 minutes from where I live!

Honestly I would go for it as long as you don't have to do the opening shift.

Because getting there at 4:00 a.m. can be a struggle if you live far away.

definitely i’ll keep that in mind! i work opening right now and it’s already a struggle to get up at 3:30am and commuting at that time would be even harder so i completely agree !

I wish you all the luck!
Opening multiple days a week is definitely a struggle.
